cic constantly reboots after nav update

Hi,
Yesterday I updated my navigation map to the newest version 2021-1 via usb. After the update reached 100% the CIC rebooted and now it freezes and reboots every time while starting the navigation. How can I revert this update or remove the map to repeat the update process ? My car is a 2010 e90 330d and it has the prof cic i-drive.

Also a few days ago I imported some music via the same flash drive and the songs were not playing right in the car. They somehow got corrupted and had a lot of stuttering. Now I tested the flash drive on my computer and the songs are playing incorrectly on my computer too! I assume the flash drive I used is broken.

Is there any way I can delete the corrupt map data from the cic hard drive and repeat the update process using a different flash drive ?

Please help

One suggestion, though I am by no means an expert on this and it involves a bit of speculation on my part.

You could pull the HDD and mount it under Qunix (see threads on generalpersistence files).

Then you would mount the partition containing the maps and carefully delete the existing map folders.
After remounting the system should come up and ask for a map update or install.

Some Linux/Unix knowledge would help and you would have to locate the map partition.

Don't ask me how though as I have never done it.

Thanks for the suggestion but is there any way to do it with ISTA or tool32 ? I have a K+DCAN Cable and all programs.

I don't know if the ISTA software has the ability to overwrite or replace maps. Tool32 is for completely different purposes.

The CIC's build in firmware does not provide command line execution nor interpreter to accept commands to do this via an Enet connection.

It does have an FTP server so it could be done via FTP... see generalpersistence file retrieval for more info on that.

Ok thanks for your help. I used the FTP connection 2 years ago to download 1b file when i generated my FSC lifetime code. So I should be able to delete the navigation maps via FTP ? I will try to connect and find them.

Yeah FTP does permit file deletion.

You could even upload new maps the same way but they are not stored as they appear on the USB releases.

I tried to delete some files but it seems the file system has no write access.

Pop the hdd out and see if the cic still reboots.

I suspect that the hdd is corrupted in some way, or the cic firmware, has glitched (it does that sometimes).

I would not recommend deleting files from the cic using FTP. not un less you know what they are.

You can delete the map software from the cic using tool32.

With tool32 it is "steuern_navi_map" and arg. "0x01",

remember you will have no maps so will have to reupload (dont use the same USB) map data.

You might want to update the cic to the latest firmware.

Id also recomend deleted the stored music too.

I tried with steuern_navi_map with 0x01 using CICR.prg and CICMR.prg and get the following error:
ERROR_ECU_SUBFUNCTION_NOT_SUPPORTED__INVALID_FORMA T

I also managed to put it into rescue mode with tool32 which made the screen black and fan spin up but at least it stopped constantly restarting. However I could not connect via FTP in this mode. I did connect with telnet but could not find the hard drive. My car is produced 3/2010 and firmware updates are available only for cars produced after 3/2010 (I read that somewhere a while ago)

I guess i will remove the hard drive now and see if I can delete the maps from my PC.

I removed the hard drive now. The system is not restarting anymore. But navigation menu is grayed out as expected. I will connect it now to an old PC now since it is IDE. Will I be able to replace the map files with non corrupt ones or do i have to delete the map files partition?

Ok, you have a corrupted HDD image...could be your HDD is bad. (its why the new music didn't play correctly too).

Do you have any friends with a cic in your local? I would clone their drive and then copy it your disc (i have done this a few times (I have a cloned image of my cic just in case)).

Cloning takes about 1 hour to copy and then 1 hour to copy back

I use Macrium Reflect, its a perfect bit for bit cloner.
I would give you mine but i have the west maps not the east.

The flash drive I used was corrupted. It is the reason for the corrupted music and maps (I later found out when I connected it to my PC...) So the cic hard drive should be working correctly after I replace/delete the maps. I prefer to delete the maps data only and then update again with a different non-corrupted flash drive or just replace the maps data. Do you know which file system the cic uses or which partition the maps are stored at? I don't have friends with a cic.

Ok I connected it to my PC now... There are 6 partitions total. The biggest ones are 12.7 and 56gb. So the maps must be located on the 56gb partition. But I don't know what will happen if I just delete it and then put it back in the car Maybe the cic won't accept it anymore. I will try to find which file system it uses. It's not FAT/NTFS

It is not a standard Windows partition so don't delete it. Any changes you attempt to make to the partition table are likely to corrupt it.

You should clone the drive first to have a backup. Then verify that backup, even make a second copy!

The drive contains the FSC codes that enable navigation and other functions so unless you want to fight with dealing with these new issues, don't delete nor remove your existing partition.

Instead mount the partitions in a QNX virtual machine and remove the CONTENTS of the map partition, then reinsert into the CIC.

Yes i don't want any other issues with FSC codes. I think i will be able to mount the partition via telnet after i put the cic in rescue mode. I will try that today. If it's not working I will create a virtual machine.

So I installed the hard drive back in the car and ran steuern_rescue_mode with tool32. Then I connected with telnet and mounted the drive using with the following command
Code:
mount -t qnx6 /dev/hd0t77 /HBpersistence/test
. After this I went into /HBpersistence/test/pkgdb/ and deleted all files there. Finally I restarted with steuergeraete_reset (tool32). But now navigation screen is not grayed out and stuck at loading. I don't know what to do now. Do I have to delete some other files too (maybe I have to delete config.nfm file) ?

I tried to put update flash drive in usb but update menu is not appearing

I tried again and got the update screen to display but after I start the update I get the following message:
Code:
usb device with navigation data is unreadable. continue update?
When I press continue the same message appears again and the update is not possible. I will try to install a QNX virtual machine now...

So i created a QNX 6.4 virtual machine but i can only mount the drive in read-only mode. I created directory /cic and when i try to run the command
Code:
mount -t qnx6 /dev/hd10t77 /cic
I get the following error:
Code:
can't mount /cic (type qnx6)... Possible reason: Read only file-system
Using the -r flag i can mount all 6 partitions (hd10t77, hd10t77.1, hd10t77.2, hd10t77.3, hd10t77.4, hd10t77.5) but can't write..

Edit: I made a backup of the drive

So i managed to copy the files over and the navigation is now finally working again. But satellite images and perspective view are greyed out from the map menu. They were working fine before
