Ordering my 335i coupe tomorrow, any advice/tips?

Hey guys,

Right now i have a 06' 325xi, i am going to order 335i coupe tomorrow.

Jet Black
Sport Package
STEPTRONIC Automatic Transmission
Paddle Shifters

On the bmw site it says it cost around 44k. Do you think i can get the dealer to go down? I don't have much experience in negotiating. You guys got any tips.

you've got the wrong mindset, don't work down from MSRP, work up from invoice. I was able to get around $1200 over invoice from VOB BMW in Maryland. My local dealer in Jacksonville FL wasn't giving any discounts.

I've heard members getting $1k off MSRP.
Have you considered European Delivery?? I think it's gonna take u about 3 months before the car arrives at your dealer. ED would save you a ton of money and it takes just as long as an order.

tell them you wanna pay invoice on the car...i'm sure you'll end up getting a deal somewhere inbetween invoice and MSRP. If they don't budge just walk out and go to another dealer.

Navit...you can go there for a couple of days just to actually take delivery and come right back.

This is true. I pulled a sneaky stunt with Long Beach BMW. I saw one of the ED guys and asked him what kind of pricing they could give claiming Sterling BMW was giving $500 off. So he said he'd match it. I came in later and spoke with another guy who gave me the same $500 off. So I placed an order. Now the original guy called me back and I said I placed the order already, and he threw out there, I'll give you $1000 off! I was like, ok, let me call you back about that offer. So I call up the second guy to leave him a message, but he hasn't gotten back to me yet. His son works there too so his son wrote down my info and supposedly gave it to him. I'm going to send him an e-mail once again. And call him if I don't hear back by tomorrow afternoon. If he says he can't now, I'm going to tell him to just cancel the order, put pressure on him.

Thats one thing, every one here wants the couple and hardtop now. This is the only dealer near me that can get the car in 10 weeks. The other dealership i will have to wait till sep. just to order.

where did you order from in NY? I actually ended up going to Greenwich BMW and while they haven't promised me anything, i'm hoping for a july production car.

you save a couple of thousand but then with airfare and hotel and what not, i think in the end you won't save more $2,000 when all is said and done.

Im too lazy to type (watching 24) so here's ED 101

1. go to a local dealer, choose a pick up date, order the car
2. book your flight
3. fly over to Munich, pick up car, fly back the same day
4. save $4500

If you just fly over there and fly back you'd save about $4500-5000. Depending on your lease term- 24 or 36 months, the difference in monthly payment is significant. Exampled: $3600/ 36= $100 difference.
If you ordered a coupe now it's gonna take about 3 months (maybe even longer depending on the demand and dealers' supply). ED takes just as long.

THis is not true.

Man Jason or Mark should make this a sticky or something because I keep having to do this break down for every single person who asks about it (also cus I never remember the link I post it in)

Rough break-down for 335i coupe:

US MSRP- $40,800 + 775 destination charge
US invoice- $37,535 + 775 destination

ED MSRP- 37,750 + 775 destination
ED invoice- 34,510 + 775 destination

That's a whopping $6300 difference between US MSRP and ED invoice. Assuming you can get $1,000 off MSRP, that's a difference of $5300. Depending on the options you want to add that difference will keep going up.
Let's just assume a $500 difference between MSRP and Invoice for those options. That gives up $5800. Take $500 off for dealer profit and we're back to $5300.

You could book flight and hotel with Expedia or travelocity all for about $1450. That leaves us with $4850. You could spend $850 on your trip (that's quite a lot of money for food and gas ) and still end up saving $3k.

NOTE: the $3,000 saving is based on the assumption that you can get $1k off MSRP. If your dealer is not budging, the saving will go up to $4,000.

"wait! so let me get this straight. I get a trip to Europe AND save $4,000?"
"yes, and you also get to drive on the autobahn"
"where do I sign?!?!?"

But on the bright side, you're getting really good at explaining it.
