I would guess in terms of being "dicks" honours are already even.

Sorry, it is sometimes dangerous listening to someone who has a friend/partner/husband as a police officer. They are not always right - and this is one of those cases ... at least in relation to what is above !

I have had a police warrant card for over 26 years and only 'pulled' it about 5 times when off duty. There is nothing wrong with identifying yourself and in fact, if you ignore something you can get disciplined - I should add that when I have done it that 3 of those 5 times have resulted in arrests - one for threatening the staff in a restaurant where I was eating, one for drink drive and one for robbery. I think that should give an idea I do not do it lightly.

The officer (if, as I have said earlier they really were) has every right to identify themselves. The issue is when and why + the bit afterwards on the basis of what you have posted makes me think they are a)stupid or b) not a police officer.

Thank you for your input. I see you have a much higher threshold than this particular officer did.

I do believe he was a police officer as his warrant card did look rather legitimate and he didn't snap it away from me before I could look etc. On that basis I would vote for the former of your two thoughts, that he is/was an idiot, stupid is as stupid does.

I'm just glad nothing seems to have come of this *touches wood*.

Nothing came of it thankfully. Not sure if it's because the car was still registered in Essex or if the office in question was simply trying to scare me (which he did), but either way, I have learnt my lesson!

I had to read it all. That made me laugh. I have done similar things when I was younger. Still happens now at 36, but now more about speeding on motorways instead of country roads.

I'm sure it did. I can tell you though, it really did make me think more about my actions in public places. I have a 325D now and this thing also loves to throw the back out. There has been a few times I have been tempted to lark about but because of this experience, I have saved it for somewhere more suitable.

So a PC's word is treated as truth? They don't require two PCs to witness something?

it shouldn't stop from having fun. Just find a road safe to do so. I have a 335i and often I take the car for a spin to have fun. I know a few roads near me where they are safe and plenty of space just in case.

Yeah that's what I mean, there are more than enough places where it is safe and quiet to have a little play.

The second part is while on duty. I bet he was just giving you a warning.

Fundamentally, yes. A police officer is taken by the courts at their word and in a situation of a police officers word against yours, then the PC's word is generally accepted unless there is corroberating evidence the other way.

Should a police officer be found to be lying, then they will generally be investigated and almost inevitably get the boot. It is a position of trust and a high moral standard is expected. That's not always the case of course, as police officers are human beings like the rest of us, but unless they are really thick, then there's little point in them lying in court and potentially losing their livelihood over it.

So, the moral of the story is have a dashcam and make sure it's well hidden!

This cop seems to be a psychopath.

Unfortunately the police is no longer on the side of us citicens. Their job is to plunder our wallets by order of a corrupt state.

A few years back I was waiting to pull out of a parking space into very slow moving traffic, one car lagged back opening up a space which I nipped into. The 'lagging' car then followed me for a couple of miles whilst flashing his lights, he then pulled me into a car park where he got out, claimed to be an off duty policemen, remonstrated with me for 'cutting him up' and threatened to charge me. He ranted and raved for about 5 minutes before leaving in a huff. I sincerely hope he wasn't a policemen because it certainly wasn't behaviour becoming of the police!

If something like that had happened to me knowing what I know now I can definitely say I'd be asking for his collar number etc.

If it turned out to be another member of the public, he wouldn't be doing it again haha.
