Rude titles aside can I do a straight swap from my huge SE gearknob for the smaller m sport one or does the m sport have a shorter shift stick?
Thanks |

It's probably because it's an e46 one that it doesn't fit the gaitor properly.
I fitted one to my e46 a while back (it's a nice weight, by the way) and it fitted fine. |

I fitted one on my E46 also so I know how it sits, only I warmed mine up so that the brushed chrome ring released, you could then slide the gaiter up inbetween this ring and the knob itself and then glue the ring in place again, that way the gaiter sits tight in the bottom of the knob

I didn't try disassembling the new one, just cable tied it so it stays up against the bottom of the gearknob. You can't really tell unless looking for it, a good compromise for the weight/feel/price of it
