What Motor Oil and grade do you have in your 335i?
I wanted to get an idea of what people are using in their tuned cars. Please list Motor Oil type, Grade/Thickness, how often you change it, and how satisfied you are with the oil and oil analysis if available.
I use: Castrol, German type LL-01 0w-30 soon to be 0w-40 changed every 3-5k miles with Mann or K&N oil filter The car runs great, smooth, oil analysis soon |

Liqui Moly 5w40. I change it every 5-6.5k miles. I've noticed some slight improvements compared to the BMW(Shell) oil. I will be sending a sample of my oil to Blackstone. I've noticed my car is a lot quieter at cold start now.

Castrol edge euro 0-30 would be my choice but it's hard to find. I use the 0-40 because that's what's available on the shelf.
Change it every 5k. I have a sample waiting to go out to blackstone now actually... They are recommending trying 7500 miles as of my last sample. First I sent them a 2500 then a 5000 sample. Less than avg metal counts and above average life left on the oil even after putting track days on it... hard to argue against it since it's by far the cheapest and most available! 12-15k OCI and trying to save $15-20 on the oil. I honestly don't understand the line of thought. For that OCI you should get the best oil and Pentosin is certainly not. Isn't that you had it coming too but Rotella T6 would be a better choice.

The thought process? I don't perform more maintenance on basic items than I need to; simple as that. There's an algorithm in the car that calculates how long the OCI is based upon fuel usage and a direct measurement of oil quality through electrical conductivity. That's what I follow for oil changes. |

actually no? i live in socal and used 10/30 on every car ive owned and family members as well. some turbos and mostly na. switched to 15-40 and 20/50 on higher mileaged engines and never had any oil starvation or performance related issues. with automotive i normally stick to what works and try my best not to try new brands or repair procedures cause we try not to repair it again and again. but thats never the case with me lol

They changed the formula, the PDS numbers look great but it's no longer BMW long life one approved. It's not clear why it's no longer approved but from the used oil analysis on Bob is the oil guy my guess is it does not Retain grade and breaks down too soon under high shear. It's viscosity index and HTHS are excellent. It was the last mobil that was a long life approved and I would use it but without that certification I'm not going to take the risk. How does the Amsoil 05W 40 run?
