actually this is a great feature in the seattle area. i use it daily getting home from work (eastside > westside, 405 or 520) which saves time/roadrage.

ymmv here, depending on location but not useless by any means..

I'm sorry for being such a noob but what does ED mean?

Thanks

[Edit]
Sorry tried searching for ED but the search post keep showing up nothing so I had to ask. I figured it might have been European Delivery but it didn't make sense to me when there are people in the US opting for ED. Luckily there's an acronym post recently and came across edbmw.com, then everything clicked. Sorry for my noobness.

And I sat in a newer one, and it has to be at least 123231 times faster. Granted, i'm coming from acura, so technologically its all been downhill.

In other news, I think RTTI came out before March 2007, my car is pre-march and I have it. I actually like it though. Living in a top 10 worst US traffic area it comes in pretty hand.

Setup the button on the steering wheel to change from CD to Sat to FM.

iDrive was designed to improve safety by avoiding having the driver lean forward and look down to press buttons while driving.

iDrive was also designed to accomodate all the new functions on the vehicle without having hundreds of buttons. By the way have you seen the 67 buttons on previous Honda.

My experience is that the BMW nav is a bit low on features, but very high on ergonomics. Example is sunlight readability which is great compared to a $100k Range Rover.

People complaining about iDrive or Nav probably still use fax machines.....

I dont regret it. I don't feel I'm missing much.

The only thing early '07 owners are missing are the 6 programmable keys & USB if they chose the iPod adaptor. '07 models have RTTI and an available iPod adaptor. The iPod adaptor was an aftermarket product linking an iPod in the glove box but it has a similar interface to the 6FL iPod adaptor. Pre-March '07 doesn't have USB. All other features can be added with a Progman update such as nav search.

Those before March '07 didn't have the HD radio option. Those after March '07 and before September (not positive on the month) '07 owners could only get Sirius or HD radio but not both at the same time. After September(?) '07 new owners could get both HD radio and Sirius. Maybe some people regret not getting both options. Again, I dont miss HD radio.

Euro Delivery. Its an option to pick up the vehicle in Germany at a cheaper price than taking first possession at your local dealer. Once you take delivery you can use the car in Europe for a length of time (1 minute to several weeks). You drop the car back off & its shipped to your dealer in the States for re-delivery (for lack of a better word). There is a lot of information on this delivery method in the 'New Car Ordering + Tracking Information Forum (including European Delivery)' section of this site at http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=30

I love the buttons, I use them for phone numbers, nav points and an iPod shortcut. Other than that you aren't missing much. It is really cool how they are sensitive to touch, and by just running your finger over the top of them it displays their programmed function w/o actually selecting it.

07 e90, has rtti and ipod connector, build 9/06.
FWIW, I would not have ordered (or paid extra) for nav/idrive but dealer cut us a deal on a car on the lot with leather, nav, xeon so it was worth it. I have used a laptop with "Streets and Trips" in my truck but bmw's nav works just fine

To answer your question : NO

My car is 09-06 built does not have the buttons.... I don't even use the programmable buttons on the steering wheel. To me it is all about the voice commands.... I also got the latest avail upgrade in Oct 07 which improved the overall functions..... So far no regrets about any of the options picked on the car....
