GT3 clean up correction

Porsche GT3 One Step correction

When you have a black car in this condition, it usually requires much more work to restore it to a like new state. By much more work, I mean more compounding, more polishing, and more final polishing. However, when you are trying to sell the car, and you don’t want to put a lot of money into it since you will not be the one driving it around anymore, it makes sense to get it looking better, but not necessarily perfect, especially when perfect would require triple the bill and 2 full days on the car! Overall, this was a pretty big change and is now in a much better condition. Total time was about 8 hours. I was dealing with being outside all day, very strong winds, lack of shade, a filthy car, repainted panels (75% of the car), and black paint! I couldn’t go more aggressive without leaving the paint too hazy, yet I had to get some cut going on in order to remove oxidation, paint defects, and restore gloss. It was 8 hours of straight through labor!

Befores:

Nasty wheels and brake calipers! Sonax takes care of these with ease!

It was a chilly morning, this is the condensation build up I was greeted with!

Lets not take off the license plate bracket, just hit it with the polisher. Takes 1 min to remove!

Exhaust tips needs a bit of loving

Claybar after just half the front fender

Swirls and paintwork needing help

AFTER SHOTS OF ONE POLISHING STEP ONLY – NOT FULL CORRECTION, BUT MUCH BETTER OVERALL CONDITION!

And the license plate bracket cleaned up even though your don’t see it with the plate on, I still know.

Process from start to finish:
Paint stripping wash to remove old protection
Thorough wheel cleaning
Claybar treatment
Compound and polish hood
Polish entire car
Clean paint
Sealant application to paintwork
Vacuum and interior dusting
Tire dressing application
Windows cleaned (twice as they were pretty filthy inside)

Did it bum you out that the customer didn't spring for a full correction? That was a HUGE improvement from the before pics but I couldn't help wanting to see it perfect.

dude, you have no idea. He was at his office while I was at his house. I tried three stepping the hood and there was still sanding scratches that were deep in the paint. Thats why I called him and asked what he wanted to do...I gave him the price break down difference and the time scenario. Asked if he wanted it like new, or cleaned up...

It happens a lot, people dont want it perfected because it will still go through the car wash, or people want it perfect, but dont want to pay for it, or some dont care the cost, then want the best!

I would rather spend 2 days on every car I do and do just 2 a week for XXXX amount each over 4 cars for XXX amount, but not everyone is on that same page!

CGEZCG - good at removing polishing oils and then allowing a sealant to bond better vs just laying a sealant on top of the polishing oils.

IPA is used some other times, glass cleaner other times as its not as harsh on the paint (softer paints)

Great job Eric!!! The paint definitely improved a lot especially for a 1 step. What polish did you use? Also, how do you polish a car with black paint outside? The paint gets really HOT.

It was a royal Pain! I had to constantly move the car around (forward, backward, to the left, to the right) since there was a shaded area the whole day. the second half of the day, it was pretty much shaded for the last 3 hours. I never polished in the sun. The horrible santa ana winds at 30-40mph kept blowing dust all over the car, so every time I started a new section, I had to wipe it down. Luckily when it came time to wax, the winds died down a lot. That job sucked, but I got through it as best as possible given the circumstances!

I used Menzerna 203 since it cuts decently and finishes pretty well on black paints. Could have used 85rd after, but that wasnt in the bill for 5 hours...at the 8 hour mark!

100x better even with just a one step polishing job. Great work, maybe next time he'll splurge on the full detail.
