To Down Pipe or not to Down Pipe
Ok, I'm in bit of a predicament. I want more sound out of my car badly and to cut the secondary cats out will cost around $200-250 at a reputable shop. Here in lays the problem lol Raceland DPs are only $199 and I work at a dealership with free lift access and master mechanics to help when needed. However, once those DPs are on I would have to take them off if I was to ever go to the dealer for anything including the wastegate warranty which I am still eligible for( I'm at 74,845 miles). If I was to just cut the cats out I wouldn't have to worry about anything. I know, I know DPs give MASS HORSEPOWER!!! But I'm sitting conservatively around 320whp which is plenty at the moment so the horsepower gain is not something I really care about. I just would hate to buy DPs, install them, them develop a wastegate rattle and have to take them back off.
I'm stuckkkkkkkk haha |

Wastegate rattle is inevitable on this car, keeping that in mind, don't get downpipes if you dont want to hear it. Dp's give some decent power, but if you have a tune already you can actually gain more power with a good intercooler.

I know heat soak is a serious issue with these cars so I have been thinking about an intercooler. I may just invest in that then. I know the turbo rattle is normal and I hear it but if I ever ran into the issue of no boost bc the wastegates failed I would rather be able to swing up to the dealer than have to take the DPs off first. |

Get the dp's and put them on. It will be easier because you have a lift and mechanics to aide you. I was in your same position about putting them on and i went for it and glad i did. you definitely can hear the waste gates more pronounced but it is worth the power. And if you need new turbos you onky have tontake them off and on one more time, not mutiple times.

C@tless DP's with stock exhaust (back) sounds great. Perfect combo IMO.
As stated above go with a good fitting DP.....spend the extra money, it's worth it.

+1 Not sure why you would buy eBay Dp's for a BMW when legit Dp's from vendors here are not much more $$

VSRF and BMS DPs should not be lumped in with the run of the mill Chinese DPs.
BMS DPs look very good and are said to fit perfectly.

If you are going to get a set of DP's you might as well get 3" ones, that leaves out racelands. I personally have the vrsf dp's and fmic. I got the fmic first but a week later added the dp's. This was one of the easier sets of dp's to install.

That's a lot of money to get secondary cars cut out and replaced with some straight pipe.

It should be very inexpensive to have the cats replaced with a straight pipe. You can get the pipe for 30 bucks or less. I can't imagine you guys don't have a welder in the shop and somebody that can weld decent. Should only take them 30-45 minutes to cut the cats out and weld in the new piping.
