Paddle shifts

Can paddle shift be fitted to my 2006 e90 msport 330 I auto triptronic

If so is it and easy job ? Or more complex ?

shouldn't be a problem youll need a steering wheel and paddles, the chrome horn type or m3 paddles should fit no problem but the lci type need rewiring to work. you can get a wiring harness to wire the lot together on ebay but as mike said look up the us forum there is loads of info on there.

Oh right ok so can't use the existing steering wheel and add the paddles ? I'll av to buy a steering wheel with the paddles on ?

If so is it a certain steering wheel type I need? What the ruff cost of this to convert ?

You will need a paddle shift steering wheel which you can get for about £150 off eBay and then you will need to buy the paddles - they tend to sell for about £100 whereas I got mine for £40 off eBay.

Right ok, just had a look on eBay and I've seen a few with the paddles on also there was an m3 steering with the paddles on too, would that fit straight on ?

How's your working since u did yours ? Have u got the 335 style paddles or the m3 ones ?

Yeah the M3 steering wheels are a direct fit.

Not sure which version my paddles are but pics are in the link above I posted before as thats my car in the pictures.

Also mine work perfectly fine - i do need to move the shifter into manual mode to use them though so I am hoping I can somehow code this out.

I made up my own wiring - I work in the auto motive industry so I have the correct connectors and pins required.

If you want I can give you a hand fitting the steering and paddles if you are able to travel to me.

The standard fit paddles require you to put it into manual to use them too.

They do work in D, but only to knock it into gear for overtaking etc. If you don't put your foot down etc it resorts back to D in seconds.

Does it matter if the steering wheel is pre LCI or LCI ?

The Sport wheels are all the same with paddles.

However, the paddles on the late LCi (2010 on??) are only 2 wire, rather than the 3 wire of the earlier type. AFAIK, the M3 blades are 3 wire. pre-LCi paddles are rocker type - not as nice looking as the M3 or later type, but arguably better to use. the late LCi have the +/- on them, but have a black face, rather than the brushed face of the M3 ones.

I have a late LCi, and I had an earlier model. The earlier model had rocker paddles which meant that you could change up/down on either paddle, by pushing or pulling the blade. The late type or M3 are individual.
I am intending to convert my late type to the earlier rockers as I prefer them. Unfortunately, they aren't a straight swop!

Yes.
My '09 LCi had 3 wires, my '11 has 2
The '09 had the rocker paddles, thumb push to change down, finger pull to change up. These were just switches, the same as the M3 paddles I think.
My '11 has blade paddles, similar, but not the same as the M3 ones. These are 2 wire, and have pull-up resistors in each paddle. I have a set of rocker paddles, but haven't had the balls to see if they will work without modification in case I fry something. The 2 wire plugs are the same as the 3 wire plugs, but one slot is unpopulated.
Converting rocker type with a couple of resistors should be easy enough to do - when I took off the paddles I couldn't get a decent resistance reading on my meter to source some, and I haven't been bothered to take them off again to recheck.
