That's some serious power TDI! I am running Jarek's Stage 2 with deletes. What are your additional mods to get that kind of power?

We should probably try to keep this thread focused on NC335d's results and hybrid turbo's.

Enjoyed the video! Would love to hear more about boost levels, MAF, AFR's (although the video gives some pretty good insights as to that :-) ), exhaust pressures, EGT's, etc.

Sorry NC335d, I believe they put a jet engine in your car instead.

Very cool. Highly interested in the turbo upgrade and cost. Maybe more economical if they can find an OEM style wheel upgrade, but likely a bit difficult with these being diesels.

I've called around to 3 shops so far and they were skeptical they could find a non-billet solution.

Incredible numbers, can't wait for 1/4 times.

You can double your flow, just make it fill in where the torque is dropping. You are still shy where others have been. Actually the only failure I know of with this engine and overpowering is bent rods. If you are not messing with the OEM SOI timing, you won't pull the head studs. Methanol and H20 delay peak pressure. But, if it gives you peace of mind, go for it.

Also, methanol has no smoke limit. You might be surprised to see your exhaust cleanup while gaining HP.

This is an ongoing project. It is my understanding from conversations with the tuner that timing has been altered from stock. The good thing is that we can alter the tune as needed and as additional quantifiable data is collected since the tuner and bench flashing equipment is onsite. This is one of my daily drivers so I want to have peace of mind and do things right the first time round and be proactive.

Just out of curiosity, what are the highest #'s that you have seen?

Any specs on where they installed your meth nozzle and what size the nozzle is? Is AEM a boost progressive controller?

Actually it is the shape of the curve that has me concerned. IMO, I would be careful with the torque levels and the transmission. Your HP peak is not where I would want it, right near the shift point. My point was you could have higher torque and HP in the upper rpms. Better for the transmission, and better for the quarter mile.

What? I've been drag racing for 15 years, you want tq down low and have a good set of drag slicks to cut a good 60ft, plus on the m57 being a diesel, no where does the tq and hp cross making hp a non factor, its all about torque. I think NC335D was asking about seeing some other dyno sheets showing where they have made more, do you have one?

subscribed! NC335D, this is badass and I'm glad someone local is getting more experience with these engines. I've been in contact with BPC, and depending on cost, I might have some similar work done. Thanks for being the guinea pig!

You are correct, a good 60ft time is key. However, if you are overpowering traction (as some are with slicks) then more isn't better. Our cars are NOT setup to launch well. Furthermore, if you have been in the game, then you know the famous saying "torque breaks parts, horsepower wins races". You don't need to look any further than TDIwyse's graphs to see the difference.

Horsepower moves vehicles. Horsepower in the powerband the vehicle operates is most helpful. It's called area under the curve. Once you make the first shift, HP down low is not going to make a difference. The more gears you have the less difference it makes.

Been involved in drag racing since the 90's. Tuned on an 8 second Mustang. Not my first rodeo, either. Just trying to help someone out and keep them from ripping the thing apart.

Hey, im not really trying to argue with you, but you havent really answered any questions, you said you've seen bent rods, broke trans, and people making more power. I think we would all like to know where you have seen this on the BMW M57 here state side. I've been looking into getting one of these for myself and only seen one guy saying he broke his trans with wayy less power and most of the higher hp post ive seen have been @ the engine or STD numbers (i've got a turbo'd mustang too and have been to shops that like to pump up there numbers by changing them to std that reads 10-15% higher than sae) So right now its kinda hard to judge the info you are giving. If you post something for us to see, that would be great and I will apologize. I think the real thing Im waiting for is the track, NC335D contact me when you hit up fayetteville or the rock, I would love to race you

It seems to me that it's difficult to accurately compare one dyno to another. Even for the same car on the same day. For example:

http://www.superstreetonline.com/how...ine-dyno-dash/

[same car, same day, 5 different dyno's, 5 different results]

Turbo Magazine Dyno Dash Comparison Chart
Dyno ..............HP........TQ
Dynapack.......249.4...242.8
DTS ..............257.6...556.5*
Dynojet (Win).235.8...227.8
Dynojet (DOS).243.7...237.2
Clayton...........265.7...240.6
Super Flow......228.9...226.6

*measured at roller without accounting for gear reduction

Others opinions may vary, but I find the track results much more "real", as compared to spinning rollers. I'm glad to hear NC335d is going to take it to the strip. I hope we get some more 335d's breaking into the 11's on a certified track with verifiable weather conditions.
