A BETTER poll of M57 engine issues.
Please read carefully as I don't want a repeat of the last attempt, done by dzlmoose who had a bunch of near new 335d's chiming in that their 15k mile car works fine....
I already have votes in the poll for Non US cars and a vote from an owner with only 30k miles. (2/3 which were no's) I'd like to take a poll for anyone who has had Carbon Build Up issues or items that appear to be related. I paid for a Mass Air Flow swap as that was the code, but 8k miles later the Carbon Build Up was finally diagnosed. I'd like to take a poll of who has had issues with the car. SPECIFICALLY: You must have driven it long enough for the problem to manifest, so only those who are near/past the 50k mileage please. SPECIFICALLY: You must have a US based 335d model that does/did not have any systems removed (i.e. DPF deletes) prior to issues manifesting. Additionally, this is not a diagnosis page I am hoping there are a few like me you ditched the failing car but still read the threads. Also for anyone who can confirm for someone else (i.e. can link to their thread) I would appreciate it. Quote:

58,000mi, 38k mi with JBD @ 100%
Something with the EGR replaced, not sure if whole thing. I believe this was around 38k miles. I voted no, but I haven't really checked for carbon build up. I would like to think I do not, considering I put on 500+ hwy mi a week and drive like an ass.

Maybe you should add the production date as well since some 2011 models were built in 2010. Would be interesting to see the production dates vs carbon build up issues.

I voted no also..my 2010 had 49K with no carbon issues...my 2011 has 40K on it and no known issues although I have only owned the car for 2 weeks...guess I shouldn't have voted either.
I think its useful for everyone to vote imho cause I would like to see the %'s no matter how many miles is on the car...werent they only made in 10 and 11' so many of them have a decent amount of miles on them I would think. |

I'd have asked if people used fuel additives religiously. I use Diesel Kleen and Clear Diesel (yes, both at the same time) in every tank and car is still amazing at 63,000 miles. I also live in a TxLED area.
I had to replace an O2 sensor and a urea tank sensor since purchased new in 2011, and I doubt carbon buildup since I'm still getting an estimated 580-600 miles of range per tank and the car runs like new. I think there's a potential for a class action lawsuit over the sticker by the gas cap that says to not use additives. That's really where a case can be made. K |
