At least in Europe there are certain private individuals with custom programs that can load the FSC into the CIC, regardless if it used or new. You can find some in this thread or by simply doing a search for CIC installations/retrofits in the 'net.
You are not going to find any exact details about how they do it as they charge for this service, though. |

Nice work Technic!
________________ For those who are still looking (like I was): USB Port: 61319167196 USB Port to CIC cable (one to glovebox): 61129196805 (actually for an E70, but it works fine - I got it, installed it, and works like a charm!) Availability may be very limited since demand for these is nil. |

Hi Technic, I'm new here from HK, have read this thread from page 1, really inspired by you guys' great effort !
I have a MY2006 E90 non-idrive, no GPS, no bluetooth antenna pre-assembled (pretty basic). Is it possible to retrofit it with the last CIC system? If the coding won't be impssible Another question is can someone clarify the difference of the "MAP" and "NAV" bottom on the iDrive conttroller? Left is MY2010 E90 on China market, the right one appears on eBay, not sure the year, assume it 2008, actually all I can found on eBay are all equiped with "NAV", is it jsut because of region or year? Thanks and best regards Last edited by megamo; 04-25-2010 at 02:01 AM.. |

Maybe it's been addressed before but I found something very weird in one of the 5 series loaners I was given.
It had the old idrive interface/scree/graphics/ and no full screen map display... hell it even started out with the screen where you see the circle in the middle and you can select 4 options by moving the controller left/ right/ up/ down, BUT it had the new controlled that clicks and has the navi button, radio, back, options, etc. just like the 2009 ones do. How do you explain this one?

It's documented earlier in this thread and in a few others that you can swap the new controller for the old one without any problems. Plug and play, makes for a few extra buttons but you have to take it out if they ever need to update the software on your car. |

When I was in an options menu in the navi screen and I would press navi to go back to the map (which is what it would do in the new gen idrive), nothing would happen. The same with some other buttons....

Before...
...after: Notes: - Voice Control is not yet activated as the P/N of its FSC is not known yet. The import method is the same. - Convenience Plan will not show the new screens (BMW Search, Fuel Prices etc.) with this swap. The TCU needs to be coded for 2009 specs. Google Maps "send to car" feature does not work for the same reason, either. However, Assist can send you the address to your iDrive the same exact way as Google Maps. Working on a TCU coding solution. The activation was done with genuine OEM FSC codes generated with my VIN; the import of the codes into the CIC was made by a remote connection thru the Internet. This method applies to either used or new CIC, so this can be way cheaper than what I paid. Coding of the CIC -to match VIN options- can be also performed with this method. I spent some $3300 in this retrofit, but in reality ~$1200 out of that was totally unnecessary after the fact. So done right, with a combo of used/new parts it can be done in full for $2100 -$2500 depending on the price of the used parts Full details can be answered on a case by case basis by PM; contact forum member: http://www.e90post.com/forums/member.php?u=59568 |
