for those who wants to try "other than OEM transmission fluids", the CHEAPEST fluids i found that advertises as meeting shell 1375.4 is this...
Even cheaper than Pentosin or Redline D4...

i will go to dealer for yoursake and ask them to see the drum for it and we shall all happily end this discussion about part numbers...

as i said, tell them to call bmw seattle or ask them what are the part number if you want to buy 5.5 liters of oem transmission fluids. i can gurantee you they won't divide drums down to 1/2 liter measure and sell it. there must be part numbers for smaller measurement...

again, each and every dealership checked their system, and the part numbers they use for the E90 6AT, all have shell 1375.4 written next to them. Thats how they know what to put in the cars. They told me that this part number does not have shell 1375.4, and thus, they don't use it for the E90. Now please if you are going to your dealer, please take a picture of their computer screen where, it where it says to use this fluid for the E90, so that I can show it to my 3 nearest ignorant(?) local dealerships.

i'll bring a camera but i don't know if they will let me take a picture of anything so i can't 100% promise. i just go there to check for my own sake so that i feel 100% secure about WHAT'S IN MY CAR...

I went to the dealership today. went out to the bay area to check out the fluids. the container they get is actually bigger than drum he said but anyways i was able to see the part numbers that i was looking for, 8322 0142516, on it which also says shell 1375.4 on it. he just won't let me take a picture for liability reason he says which kinda lost me there... but anyways, yea so there you have it...

8322 0142516 is lifeguard6, no one is questioning that! We just want proof that 83220406929 is lifeguard6, or even shell 1375.4, which my dealerships say isn't. You FAIL at investigating.

again, ask your dealer how they will sell you 1/2 liter. 83220142516 is 20 liter jug and they will need part numbers for the 1/2 liter measure. why is it so hard for you to get that fact? all three bmw dealers in WA area were able to confirm this so i don't know what kind of smoke those bmw dealers near you smoking...

i personally careless how you think of my investigation as i know for a fact that they used right fluids for my car and that's all that matters to me...

Yes, they have the 83220142516 20 liter jug, and the 83 22 0 144 137 1L container, both listed in their system as shell M1735.4. Why would they use that 1/2 liter jug exclusively for the job, when its not shell M1735.4, and when the have the 1L jug? also why change out only 5.5 liters? is there something wrong with the other 2 liters you can drain out? Clearly, stupid people live in washington. Anyways just PM me the numbers of your dealerships, and I'll PM you mine. Ask to speak to the parts department. They haven't heard any jokes lately!

they initially quoted 5.5 liters but ended up doing 6 liters. not 7 liters. i don't know if they just fill up the rest or what but shop foreman told me that's what it's drained out without messing with TQC. and yes he told me he made sure it was shell 1375.4 because they initially quoted for wrong transmission fluids as i mentioned earlier.

here's numbers for bmw seattle and bellevue.

1-800-782-8780 seattle
1-877-411-6940 bellevue

1. Just called paul at BMW parts department seattle--> 1-800-782-8780 seattle, he said they've never changed a 335I automatic transmission fluid below 100K miles

2. wayne's my man at bellevue BMW--> 1-877-411-6940!! He said that each 335i has different transmission manufacturers! some are made by GM? the other are made by some other foriegn company that he doesn't know. and thats why he thinks that they take a whole bunch of BMW ATF part numbers! . After asking him a bunch more questions, he said they were lifetime fluids, and his service department has never even used it! Thanks for the laugh!

the number that you gave me for motorwerks bmw is incorrect.

the guy at patrick bmw told me the part number ending 929 is generic numbers and some dealers do use it for 1/2 liter measurement but they only use 1 liter measurement.

the guy at joe perillo bmw told me that part number is right for 1/2 liter measurement. he told me that there's designated fluids part # on bottom of every transmission on bmw vehicle which in this case saying the one ending 516, which is 20liter jug. that's how the dealership gets. but when they do sell it to general public they can use smaller measurements like the one ending 929 and indeed if i want 1/2 liter that's the number that they will use.

he also told me that since i've done this at the bmw dealership, there's no way they could've used other transmission oil for other vehicle. the part numbers ending 929 is only for pricing purpose and is same exact oil as the part numbers ending 516.

hopefully that answers your question...

anyways after the laugh, I decided to look closer at this document--> http://bmwfans.info/accessories/prod...s/gearbox_oil/ not only is the part number they used not on here, but it seems like the 1L jug 83 22 0 144 137 is not even sold outside germany, per EU laws. the 20L jug 83 22 0 142 516 does not have that note, next to it. absent, is this phantom (shell M1375.4?) 83220406929 1/2 liter jug. If the 1L is not even sold outside germany, then why would the 1/2 liter, which is not even listed here, be sold outside germany?

i do not know the answer for that but every bmw dealer in the u.s. will sell smaller measurement for it if asked. who's gonna buy 20L jug if that's the only way of selling it when in fact you only need to use merely 1/3 to 1/4 of that

and as for 929, that because it is generic part numbers for pricing purpose. its only purpose is to charge right amount for that measurement...

anyways chris at patrick BMW 1 866-208-2136 just said: "you'll have to bring your own container because we only have a 20L container for the transfluid for your auto 335I

Next I then called Julio, at perillo BMW 1 312 981 0000 he just said: "if you notice there no dipstick, in your car, so your not surpposed to change that transfluid. The fluid we have for it comes in 20L containers only. No smaller components are necessary.

Yes, and you trust these IDIOTS with your 8,000K transmission? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the result of our quick experiment, two people call these dealerships with different voices, and you get completely different answers to the same questions? WHY?
