Isn't it that the Euros run with only IAT sensors and no MAFs?

Yes, most of them didn't use the MAF. the N52 was designed to run without it. I think BMW used it here mainly for emissions - I've been running a MAF delete tune for a year now and I think it's superior for the most part (way smoother at low RPM, seems to be more responsive, one less thing to break, etc).

Would running a MAF delete tune throw a CEL or inactive sensor warning that the Smog scanners would see?

I did a MAP based tune on my S54 and it was really nice with the exception of large throttle openings at low rpms, which I think was more a function of the VANOS than anything...

No - I don't have to smog my car here though so I don't know if it would pass a sniffer, but all the monitors should still set just fine.

Euro N53 is using MAF but I don’t know what it’s used for. My car runs happily with MAF unplugged but it throws CEL. Bob from BPC promised MAF delete software for N53. Unfortunately it was year ago and I’m still waiting.

desertman, did you go with the BPC tune? I still have to rebuilt my DISAs before installing in the spring.

He has a Bimmerlabs 'OE' 130i tune - cost? $40 for a D-CAN cable and the time it takes to download and install BMW Tools (WinKFP).

I already have the cable and BMW tools, would you mind linking me the info on the 130i tune? The BPC I find a little bit expensive--I was thinking of just installing my 3si and driving as-is.

edit: I'm on the bimmerlabs website right now..will report back if I have further questions.

Am I the first 130i tuned 128i?

She pulls so hard boys. Just the 30th mod I've done that made me go "wow it should've been like this from the factory"

And I've put like 500 miles on the tune so far - it's an official BMW tune, not anything custom so nothing should go wrong, but being a ""custom"" tune that's always a thought that appears.

I'm from europe and my 325i intake manifold already has 2 disa valves, does that mean it's stage 3?

So I would only need to tune the engine? Or since the engine is 2.5l the same results can't be achieved?

Yeah that's stage 3 and you should contact any tune company in Europe about that or email AA/BPC from USA.

I know there has been no activity on this post in a while and it was originally started a long time ago, but I have searched it and had no luck finding the actual DIY. Can anyone point me to the post # of the actual DIY? Thanks!

Okay, so I now have several DIYs on the install, the intake is on its way, parts are ordered. Might try it during the week between Christmas and New Years but more likely during Spring break week (teacher, so have both those times off but garage is awfully cold in December and family activities tend to take precedence then).

But now I need some info on getting the tune. I'm not clear on how this works.

Is the tune a file I receive from the developer (AA, BPC, BimmerLabs, or other) and install from my computer via some sort of cable/connection to the vehicle? Or does some computer control module need to be removed and sent to the tuner?

If it is a file I run, do I need some additional software to do this? I do have the Carly app on my tablet and have used it to tweak some features on my E91, but I suspect that a tune is well beyond the Carly app.

I understand the BimmerLabs tune is pretty basic but is free, so I have a lot of interest in starting off with this to see how it goes. Can always upgrade later if (when) I want to tweak a little more out of the setup.

Any help would be appreciated but please be specific, don't assume I know all the technical terms or where components are located or how to access - make it step by step. Or point me in the direction of any detailed write-ups.

Thanks!

I'm not going to preach as I've been discovering things as well for my own install.

But bottom line, you need WinKFP, which is part of the BMW Tools package: bimmergeeks.net has an easy install version with instructions. Of course with that you need a KD+CAN cable which you could also buy from them (best one recommended on this board).

Then go to Bimmerlabs and sign up for an account. Read their Help section for further instructions. Then start a project and use the term 3-stage intake and you will probably get an almost instantaneous response with the exact files you need to download (also with basic instructions). hassmaschine is part of bimmerlabs, but the interface there tells you pretty much what you need. Rest is just install and testing. They could also provide you with a custom setup based on your further needs.

Sorry to revive this dead thread.
Recently had a mechanic friend gift me a 3-stage off a blown up '06 330 which got a brand new engine. However some things were damaged when the old engine was pulled. I have read the stock 328i has the connectors for the DISA valves clipped to it but these don't look like whats cut on the the 3-stage manifold. Just need some help on what goes where.
Pic attached.
