standard sound system

I'm considering a 318d SE Touring for my next car, is the UK standard sound system any good (bass?) or should I spend the money on the speaker upgrade?

I reckon the HiFi speaker system is OK to my tone deaf ears, cheaper then the full Logic7 b a considerable margin. Although I havent heard the Logic7 sound.

I didn't compare the two to be honest but the logic 7 sounds awesome.

I thought for a standard set up it's no bad at all, much better than the E46, but then most things are.

I have the Logic7 in my car wheras the wife has the standard system in her E91.
The Logic7 is defo much better (more bass, better top-end) but the standard system is also decent enough if you are not wanting to blast it out.
You still have bass coming from beneath the seats and the standard professional cd/tuner is good too. (much better than the E46 business unit)

Best thing to do is take your favourite CD to a dealer and tryout all three systems (standard, hifi, logic7) and then you will know for sure.

Logic7 rules. Well, it did until the Individual Audio sytem became available on the 3-er. Is anyone planning to order this on their car???

It's all a matter of what you can afford to spend and how much you enjoy listening to music in the car. As a musician, I prefer to listen to music uninterrupted by distractions, at home. I didn't spec the hi fi system or Logic 7 partly for this reason and partly for reasons of affordability. However, if I was to spec another BMW I would probably go for the Hi-fi. The standard system is perfectly acceptable and better than many standard systems. To my ears it lacks some mid range clarity and the bass could be punchier, but I find it adequate. Good advice from 330cdsport about testing the various systems at dealers.

Your suspicion is well-founded. I went with Logic7 as there was no Individual option at the time. Love to hear it though, hence my query about is anyone about to order it on their new car.

I listened to both the standard system and Hi Fi upgrade when choosing my E92. To me the standard system was a bit harsh and lacked base. The Hi Fi speakers seemed much clearer so that is what I went for (Logic 7 was over budget so not an option for me).

I have been really happy and listen to music every day in the car - via a USB stick (6FL). It's a great combination as you can download podcasts etc (I listen to Sportsweek for example when driving to work on Monday morning).

I went for HiFi and it sounds good enough to me! Am I correct that if you order the individual system on the e90 you have to have the beige interior?!? Is that correct?

On my first BMW (E46) I went with the Harman Kardon option.I think it was about £700 extra at the time.I was less then impressed especially considering the extra cost.
I never bothered with the upgrade on my existing car, nor did I spec the upgrade on the new one.
I will see what the standard setup is like once the car finally get's here.

I had Harmon Kardon in my E46 Convertible and the sub was superb for bass, I think in some respects the bass/low range stuff was better than with my logic 7 but all round the logic 7 in my e90 walks all over E46 HK.

While on this subject, how many speakers does the E92 have with the standard sound system, I can only see 4, but hi notes sound nice and clear, and I can't see any seperate tweeters.

There are 6 in the standard system. There are two small subs under the front sets as well that you probably didnt notice. You can see the grills if you look there.
