Trans fluid change recommendation

I recently got a 2008 328i. The previous owner is a family member and it was for the most part well taken care of. Ive been thinking of doing a trans fluid and filter change but heres my question. Its a 10 year old car, but only has 28K miles. Is it in need of a trans fluid change? Its never been done on the car but I just dont like the thought of having 10 year old fluid in there.

Might actually be gunked up from not being heated and turned over - I'd be just as worried about the filter. 10yrs is a mark that I would say you just beed to do it — if only for piece of mind.

I wouldn't touch it yet. Dex VI should hold up fine under those conditions.

I think im gonna do it, should I change the filter? Or just do a simple drain and fill?

If it’s an auto then you need to do the filter\pan as well.

Id just go ahead and do the filter too. Treat it like a break in, like they do with new engines. That will get all of the metal particles that would have worn off in the first 20k out, then you should be good for some time.

I just did it including dropping my mechatronics to replace those seals and the selector fork that can fail and it was not that big of a job.

Do you have a link to the part #'s for the mechatronics pieces? I'm looking to do mine soon and I want to replace everything while I'm there. Thanks!

Two months ago I made the trans fluid change + filter/pan. I have a 2006 330i with the ZF trans with 75k miles and never changed the oil. During the change the fluid came out dark but we couldn't find any metal residues in the magnets of the pan (thanks god).

Used 6 liters aprox of fluid and the car shift smoother now. Lot of people told me that i shouldn't touch it because it is old and bla bla bla, but everything went well so my recommendations is to do it.
