I believe it's because of winterized fuel. I have read somewhere that it reduces fuel economy.

Never this bad in the past 5 winters that I've spent with my E46.
And the current one's not even that bad.....

I've got 5400 miles and am getting 24.5 on mixed use driving. Actually, I drive city more than highway. This is waaay better than my '03 G35 Coupe!

Car is just about at 3600 miles now (bought Oct 1st). With a mixture of highway and city driving, I'm up over 29 MPG. If the BC is accurate, this is pretty damn good, but now I'm going to also validate using the "old fashioned" way. Premium gas in sunny Palm Beach county.

40% City / 60% highway = 18.9MPG for me.

I reset computer MPG meter everytime I get full tank of gas(just for this purpose, I usually almost drain the fuel tank. I know, this isn't good. Quitting soon once I get definite mileage). I ALWAYS get anything between 18.2 ~ 18.9. I am not so happy with factory MPG ratings. My car has 3500miles on it.

My car's average mpg was reset after they upgraded it to CIP 19 or whatever. Prior to that it included my long road trip up to Seattle so my average almost never budged from 22.7mpg.

Lately though in very cold Seattle weather and my extremely short city driving trips (my commute to work is under 3 miles), I am averaging about 20mpg. I have almost 7500 miles on my car.

If you look at the link I posted above, you'll notice that the car usually lies by about 1 to 2 mpg in either direction. Not a very accurate tool for measuring MPG.

I have 4,500 miles on my 330i 6spd. I get 21.1 mpg on my computer and between 320-345 miles on a full tank. I had bad milage on my first few tanks as well. I did change my oil to the german castrol and it may be my imagination, but I saw my mpg increase soon after.
