I like to post now and again that there is absolutely nothing wrong with my car. Now I can do it for *two* BMWs.

Wish I could say the same for the '04 Volvo V70 I just bought - it's going to keep me busy for a few weekends getting it up to snuff (120K mile midllife crisis). But it was cheap, and cosmetically it's immaculate inside and out.

Drive well, my Friend

This is the whole point of a E90 to me. I haven't spent much time prettying the exterior or trying to make it faster, it is what it is in those respects, 90% of the effort has gone into the things nobody sees or thinks about but what makes these cars great, their drivetrain & suspension.

Since bmw is slapping a turbo on everything. Dont ever sell your NA e90s. Mark my words, drive it till the wheels fall off and enjoy the shit out of it. Its the last analog feeling BMW. 335i are awesome but the new 330is can smoke the early e90 335is now. OH and a tesla model 3 Duel motor can defeat everybody. And a F4 phantom will obliterate all of them. So just enjoy your car and every e90 can go 140mph. Like how fast you really wanna go? LOL

PO drove mine not until they fell off but until the wheels bearings were going bad anyway. I put new ones on it, I'm gonna drive it till it needs them again.

What mileage did that happen and is it normal for wheel bearings to wear out like that? Was it driven hard or tracked?

All my life I've been a jackstands in the driveway guy, I just got a garage for the first time in my life this year, this is my first project under an actual roof I got a little carried away w/ the quickjack. It's gonna be great for changing oil and cleaning wheels but it's proving an inconvenience for big projects.

Up until a couple years ago I didn't even have this slab to work on so I was an easy mark for the quickjack folks. Wheel bearings on the dually....

The wheel bearing was starting to whine, it wasn't falling off yet. It has 206k and I have no idea how it lived it life except that I'm the 4th owner and the 3rd had it for a year and was going to project it but did something else and sold it to me. I was planning on a total refresh and upgrade anyway so it being beat just made it cheaper.

Starting to do some research for a e91 N54 swap, and here its not possible to buy a complete salvage 335xi under the used market price.

So to save few $$$, I need to buy parts from salvage yard. Called a very well reputed salvage yard, and they told me they have few, but hard to find WITHOUT a hole in the block !!!

Though n54 got 99 problems, but hole in the block wasn't one of them ?

Yes I guess stupid people push the engine with a stage 3 map stock everything, but the guy own the yard since 25 years, and he told me this is an common issue.

I've seen a few blown up. Either heavy fuel dilution in the oil because of those problematic injectors or windowlickers that start the car up in the school parking lot and proceed to rev it like an idiot with a cold engine

Wheel bearings last ~200k. Less if the cars been run continuously with unbalanced wheels or if the owner had a habit of nudging curbs while parking (most don't with our large expensive wheels). More if it's not been exposed to either of those and has been run on smooth roads.

Unless you are clairvoyant (and obviously you aren’t) you can’t tell how many miles bearings would last.

You're right, I can't. I'm just speaking from personal experience. As we used to say, YMMV

According to my quote, 330’s are faster than 335’s.

Makes me want to get a 330 now.

Interesting factoid... the one instance my 325i needed assistance getting home was when the WP went tits up at 149,251 miles. The tow truck driver mentioned his daily was a 2009 328i that he relies on to get to the tow company so he can get his truck to tow N54's when in need...
Yay my car is a 2009 328i!

Still the best answer in this thread. I just got my turbos off after a failure last weekend. Only took me 15 hours!
