How to determine CIC firmware version - C13, C16 - Combox retrofit

I have a 2009 335i with CIC, bluetooth and USB. I sourced the combox and wiring harnesses to do the retrofit and think I have a good handle on what I need to code.

It sounds like for full functionality and to not need an FSC code, I want to the CIC firmware version to be between C13 and C16.

What coding software do I use to determine the CIC firmware version?

Also, is there a benefit to having C16 vs. C13, C14 or C15?

Am I correct that if the version is newer than C16 then I require a FSC code?

Thanks!

Firmware can be read via Ncs. Read CIC module and it will say for instance CIC.c16 or c1a or c10.

Can you update your maps via USB? If so, then you will have a later level firmware.

I have the same setup as yourself and did a combox retrofit that worked perfectly.

The big advantage with C13 is that BMW apps work straight off, you dont need a FSC code.

Hi, I am in a similar situation where I have 09 e92 with factory CIC with bluetooth and armrest USB.
I already purchased the combox (BN2000) and collecting parts to make the PnP harness. I know my CIC firmware is the original that came with the car(Cant update maps from USB).
Trying to see if there is a way to update my CIC firmware to C13 instead of C16(or whatever the latest version is). I checked with the dealership and they say they will update it to the latest version(not C13). I would like to update the firmware to C13 if possible. Is there a way/someone who can do it?

Stupid question, is this FSC for the combox as easy to acquire as the FSC we can get from the 1b file for the map updates? I'm about to do a combox retrofit, but there's no way I'm dropping big $$$ for a FSC code if my CIC software is beyond C16 (I have a feeling it's C1A)

Easy to acquire, yes...but will cost several hundred $.

FSC for maps is different compared to FSC for BMW apps.

I realized they were different, I was hoping I could generate a FSC from a file like the 1b like I did for my map updates.

Quoting my own question. Does anyone know how to or who can upgrade the firmware version to C13? Dealer is going to update to whatever the latest version is. I guess, I am just trying to see if I can upgrade it to C13 and not have to pay for FSC.

WinKFP with the correct DATEN files is what you'd need.

Thank you. I assume it cant be done with WINKFP with K/DCAN cable. It has to be done with ICOM interface.
And the spdaten files has to be 41 or 42 and the update should be done to CIC.c16 or higher. Any higher(43 or above spdaten), FSC will be needed. Am I correct?

Now to find someone who actually has the correct files and the required hardware.

Many people have updated with K/DCAN it just takes longer... ICOM would be the preferred method. Any daten above C16 will require a FSC for the combox retrofit yes.

Late hijack of thread - apologies.

Wanting to upgrade to Combox so I can using BT audio streaming. I can update the maps via USB but when checking my CIC firmware version NCSExpert shows it as CIC.C08,A_CIC.IPO,CICR.PRG.

Do I need to upgrade to utilise the functions of the Combox? Anyone got experience of updating via K/D CAN and willing to spare a few mins to give me some guidance?

Thanks!

I think you need at least C13 for the combox and at least C16 for BMW Apps. I strongly recommend against using a D-CAN cable to do it. If you do use one, I'd at least get Bimmergeeks' pro-cable since it is faster and more reliable, but it could take quite a while to complete the flash. Ideally you'd want to use an ICOM with the ICOM-B adapter.

I couldn't be any happier you are now working with our platform.

Did you purchase an E9x?

I'm using c08 and have internet and office but not apps. The combox works fine as well.

Nah, but I do have an E60, which is close enough for most things. Toying with the idea of picking up a 335is or an E9x M3 too.
