rear brake pads

I am assuming this light is for rear brake pads ?
Already emailed Rocco to see how much to get them replaced.
Where do you guys typically get yours ? Price tag for parts seems reasonable.

Did you physically take a look at the pads?

Might be just a sensor issue. I had that goddamn warning light go on every time I pulled off a rim to do some work.

They ended up re-programming it at the dealer.

Yes it's your rear pads. If you change it before it turns red, you won't need to buy a new pad sensor and can reuse it. Once it's red, the sensor will need to be replaced.

Don't reset the CBS for the brakes unless you install a new sensor cable along with the pads.

By CBS are you talking about the warning light? I changed my rear brakes (iDrive told me too lol) and then reset the iDrive back to "100k for brake replacement".

There are 2 levels for the indication.

When it's yellow, that means you are reaching the min 2mm pad thickness wear mark. This also means that if you change the pads soon, you won't need to replace the brake sensor and the CBS will adjust itself to reflect the new mileage left on the pads.

However, if you hit the red indication (with parking brake symbol lit), you have reached the critical point on your pads. Unfortunately, this also means that the sensor must be replaced and the cbs interval must be manually reset.

I just finished doing a brake pad replacement after hitting the red indicator on the track over the weekend. Replaced the pads and sensor and did the reset and everything is back to normal.

Yes, the warning light, with the km countdown

If you do not change the sensor cable and you reset the service counter it will give you a warning when you start the car and the km reading will show ------ instead of a number.

I'm at 103K kms and haven't replaced pads or sensors yet, however, my car is certified used so perhaps they did it before I picked up the car. My brakes do suffer from the infamous "E9X Squeal", though.

I'm looking at the Cool Carbon pads when I need to change.

My rears were replaced for free after I complained about the brake squeal at low speed acceleration. They said the newer pads don't do that.

question:

my front brake light (yellow) indicator came on (odd since both the front and rear said 8000km before they needed to be replaced) and I took it to autowest for inspection.

autowest guy says I have over 8mm in the front and slightly over 5mm in the rear and told me to replace the rears

I checked this forum and they say 3mm is the minimum. Are they trying to scam?

I've got 3 months left in this car before the next bmw...
