FIXED! 6AT 335xi brake,abs,traction control,transmission mal.and 4x4 lights
ok so i have my brake, abs, traction control, and 4x4 & Transmission malfunction ;drive moderately lights on all at the same time and when i start my car i hear a short little grind noise, and my xdrive is completely disabled.
All mods on sig on, have been driving ever since i've installed them with no problems at all and no codes as well, and even this morning when i went to work it drove fine and smooth. This afternoon on my way home from work stopped at the a red light all the lights appeared on the dashboard like a christmass tree, thankfully it was just a few blocks from the house and drove it home. Just scanned my car with the BT cable and i've got all bunch of codes that came out, Please any help, would be greatly appriciated. CODES: Quote:

First place I would start is fuses and then the battery. Whenever you have A LOT of codes appear at once it's usually not several malfunctions but one thing(usually electrical.) Have the battery tested, I know this doesn't sound logical but battery issues cause some weird problems on modern cars.

I know the diagramis pretty much useless but can you tell if they're powertrain related? Hopefully that fixes it... But it does beg the question why did they blow?

I ended up shutting it down and will go at it tommorrow, idk if the TOP 4/5 fuses need to light when u check or not but they dont and i pulled a few to check and they seemed fine, now im completely clueless of what to do, ill check the fuses at the dme tommorrow and see if theyre ok... So effin' weird and while i was checking the fuses with car on Transmission Malfunction came on and the lights inside the car started flickering, weird?

If you hear a brief grinding sound when you start and shut the car off, most likely it's the transfer case actuator motor. It does a self test/calibration when the key is cycled, and the teeth in the moor are probably stripped. That's the noise that you're hearing. You can get it separately from the transfer case and it's a fairly easy swap.

You'll probably have to get it diagnosed by a dealer or someone capable of checking the dsc faults. Reading dme faults won't get you what you need to be positive. Transfer case motors are fairly common, especially in tuned cars with more torque than stock. That motor works over time. Short of pulling the motor off and disassembling it to check the gears, fuses are about all you can check in this case.

+1 on testing the battery
I got all of those errors (dash lights) on my e46 when the battery/alternator failed. If you have a dc volt meter its easy to test: With nothing powered on test the voltage - normally a fully charged lead-acid is around 12.8 volts, not sure if AGM is different but I would assume it's the same. Next power on the headlamps, fans, radio etc with the engine off The voltage will dip some, but should stay above 12v When you start the car the voltage should be 13.2 - 14.5 Good luck, hopefully its something easy. |

Weird my father went to get something from the car earlier, i was not home. And it took like a couple of tries with the keyfob pressing to unlock the car, and when it did unlock all the interior lights just shut off immidieately and after shutting the doors he could not get the car to lock. He did not try to turn it on though, i will try asaiget the chance to work on it...weird!

This. Same symptoms as when mine failed. Also, this should probably be in the xi section.

Thought i'd update this thread just incase someone ever goes through this, so basically my battery would over charge and undercharge from 10v - 18v, i dont know what caused it, but that caused my car throwing all sorts of codes you can think off and it got me worried as hell... maybe the oil i leaked or maybe when i pressure washed my engine but i had to replace the Alternator to get me up and running also replaced and registered the battery. A bit of an expensive fix but glad it was something too serious like transmission or w.e.

Same problem?
Hi guys. New to the forum, but i've been a long time bmw fan.
I've been having a similar, if not the same, issue. Can anyone confirm my lights are showing the same problem? This combination of lights on the dash started a few months ago and has been occurring with increasing frequency. Sometimes they appear when the car starts up, sometimes after I have been driving for a while. Any help would be wonderful as I do not have the extended warranty and i'm hesitant to take to my BMW dealership for service without having any idea of the problem. Thanks! |

You can buy a BT tool to scan all those systems for codes cheaper than one trip to the dealer for a checkout. They charge for diagnostics even if you get the work done there. For me, I charge diags only if you want the codes read/problems figured out. If you get us to do the work, there is no diag fee.
Or call around to local independent shops that have an Autologic or GT1 to scan codes. Expect to pay $90-125 at an indy shop to get it checked out. It's hard to help over the Internet unless you know what the codes are.
