Turning on puddle lights when in reverse

The f30's puddle lights turn on when in reverse. Seems like a super helpful feature, anyone ever do this with there e90?

Guess I'm not understanding

The Puddle lights are the lights under the doors that go ON when you open the door & shine on ground directly under door. How would these going ON when in reverse do anything for you? My doors are closed when I'm moving so I would never see them whether they were On or not, & even if they weren't - light on the ground under the door during reverse isn't gonna help anything - I'm not looking under the door - I'm looking behind the car...

The lights they are talking about are the ones under the handles of the doors

it doesn't seem like it would be helpful but if its dark and there are curbs, and if you ever look out your side view mirrors when its dark....... side lights don't seem so useless. BMW put it in the f30 for a reason.

I've wanted this since I had an F30 loaner.

Related question:

Is it possible to set the lights under the door handles to stay on for longer than 15 seconds when I unlock the doors? When approaching in the dark, I often unlock with the remote but by the time I get to my car, those lights have turned off already.

I asked the dealer here in Monterey to set the timer to one minute, but they said it wasn't possible to change that setting.

So I'm putting it out to the forum where I know I'll get the truth!

Thanks.

Next time I'm looking at an FRM2 module I'l take a look. Oddly enough, now that I think about it, I haven't seen a single reference to the puddle lights anywhere in the code.

I believe puddle lights (in the door handles) come on with the interior lights. If you have your interior lights turned off, puddles will not come on. May be it is worth to experiment with the duration of the interior lights and see if it shall affect the puddle lights? I know you can code the duration of the interior lights.

Great! If someone does this, could you please let us know? The interior light can certainly be turned on without the puddle lamps, though...

If you have iDrive, you can set the time the lights are on under the welcome light or pathway lighting settings. Check your owners manual for directions. Not sure how to achieve the reverse operation.

Bringing this back up to the top as I'd like to know how to accomplish this as well. I'm sure people with the pass mirror that folds down, and looking for curbs can related. Even more helpful for those with tinted windows. This would be an amazing feature, as I cannot see curbs in dark areas. Thank you in advance for any replys.
