I just bought an e90 from an owner who had already installed the 8.8” unit on a car with CCC. As everyone else has experienced, Bluetooth streaming is pretty bad...it sounds like no one has found a good solution there. Has anyone tried a USB or MicroSD connected directly to the AVIN? Is sound quality close to stock sound quality?

Also, in my experience when I’m on a Bluetooth call I’m totally stuck on the Android Bluetooth/phone screen and I can’t switch out to look at Nav (google maps)? Has anyone figured out a way to do this, or are you just stuck on that screen any time you’re on a call?

I took a chance and pulled the trigger on this unit:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-...ceBeautifyAB=0

It is a 32G ROM, 2GB model running Android 7.1. Otherwise, appears to be similar/same unit AVIN is selling including the BMW ID6 interface. It's a gamble. Don't know how their support will be. I'll report in when I receive it.

If it contains the TDA7851, the audio will be excellent. The newer PX5 units, pretty much all come with this amp chip and it is equivalent if not better than the stock audio system. There's nothing on the aliexpress page about the output. The way to know is the output will be 4x48W.

The old/cheaper units use the TDA7388 and the audio quality is not good at all. A constant problem on these units and as such there are modders who replace it with a Pioneer amp chip:

Found one with 4x48W with newer Android 7.1

But can't actually trust what they say.

Ideally need someone who has bought a newer one to confirm

I have one of the ones designed for the E90. Sound quality is bob on, but obviously I can't speak for the unit you've linked.

My only issue with Ali is that it's going to come from China, isn't it? Are there any that you can source from the UK with a warranty etc?

Intriguing. Is there a way to discern the chip from within the OS, or only by looking at the physical chip? I haven't installed mine yet and I'm tempted to open it up and check. I would need to do it without damaging the "warranty void if broken" seal.

Not that I can think of. Do you know the brand/model of the unit ? Any details?

The original Joying units used bad amp chips that apparently produced a very mushy middly audio output. You can EQ them to sin, but the output is still very compressed. The newer units have an in-built DSP-lite and contain a superior amp chip, hence the audio quality surpasses probably stock OEM. I know there will be Alpine's and Pioneer's out there which sound better but they ain't going to offer the same functionality. I have to say, the functionality they offer is unsurpassed.

Not much info on the product. It has what i presume to be a product code or SKU: D8080-02. No other documentation or identifying information that I can see. No brand. the box says, generically, "Car Multimedia System."

Hearing that they have better sound quality now has peaked my interest again. Keen to hear comments from anyone who gets their hands on one!

Both of these units have it. I have the 7 inch, Blueh has the 9 inch screen. To be honest, if you don't need a CD, I'd go for the bigger screen.

Take a photo, I'll see if I can recognise it.

if you go into the About, you can usually identify them from the MCU. There should be 3 letters which indicate the manufacturer.

Not sure, haven't looked that closely. There are other iDrive units though. They're popping up a lot now.

It has been glitchy and will sometimes boot android and sometimes boot OEM. Sometimes it will boot OEM & will give a "No Signal" message on the android side. I emailed AVIN and they sent me an update that supposedly fixes that issue. This was earlier today so I haven't had a chance to download and apply the update.

do you have the 8.8 inch screen that replaces the factory cic if so do you recommend getting it. I plan on upgrading my cic and this seems to be the only option
