Hadecs

Hi Guys,
I was up in Chesterfield buying some ingredients for Thai food with the wife. On the way back home, travelling southbound on the M1 I thought I saw some lightning in the distance. A big flash across the sky. Looked to be a few miles ahead. Anyway next thing, maybe a minute later, I'm just mentioning to the wife that there are these HADECs speed cameras on the side of the road. I didn't realise that the second I said it that it would go off.

Luckily it was on the other side of the road and when I looked in the rear view I could see that there was a variable speed limit in force. I may have been doing 80 at the time. Which doesn't normally set them off.

The front dash cam doesn't really do the flash justice. Most of the light cam in my drivers window. It was blinding. The second it happened I couldn't be sure it wasn't on my side but the rear facing dash cam shows it is indeed on the other side of the road.

So here's the video. Everyone be careful out there. These cameras are very hard to spot, even in daylight. As soon as you see a variable speed limit, make sure you react to it quickly and safely of course.

I have seen these cameras go off in the middle of the night with no speed limit in force. On one occasion i have seen one flash every vehicle that went past at 2am in the morning with no speed limit in force.... it was flashing every few seconds...

New news

Cameras in Derbyshire will now catch you for doing over 70mph. How low the threshold is I don't know. Could be the 10%+ 2 mph, could be less. It'll be risky going through at 80. These things are nearly invisible in the dark. More lovely money for the government from motorists. Like how they make out speeding is unforgivable. Yet these cars are often designed for autobahn speeds.

Some of the cameras are using K band radar like gatsos.
I'm not sure if they are only detectable from the front.
I.e. well shielded and I detected the one on the other side of the road.

Saw these the other day, unless your looking off to the side of the road and not where your going, you won’t spot them!
Saw one go off too as I went past at 70 and a jag came past me not too much quicker but he set it off...

Yep, I know that stretch around Chesterfield well, wouldn't risk more than 70 even with no speed limit displayed on the gantry.

They'ye ruddy blinding aren't they? I went past the hadecs near Woodall services - it was set to 60 in the dead of night - because there were some roadworks up near Edinburgh or some shit. The camera went off just as I passed under it but it was the fellow in the outside lane doing 70 that had set it off.

It's like lightning at night. The whole place lit up.

If only people would actually use inner lanes like they are supposed to.
I know how it is though. Often in the outside lane you know if you move inside the cars behind will just speed up and block you in. I'd almost advocate the American system of making it legal to overtake in any lane but then you get people sitting in any lane at any speed (usually slow) forever. Blocking it just as badly. If not worse.
