$18,000 to replace turbos - WTF

so i brought my car in for service because it was locked in this low power mode. after inspecting it they found that it had low turbo pressure. they are saying the turbos might be bad or it could be a vacum line. its under the CPO warrenty with 63,000 miles and the guy is saying because of the aftermarket parts they will have to charge me $18,000 to replace the turbos....is this for real?

like what about the people who bought the car new, drove it to 60,000 miles (past factory warrenty) and the turbos go? its an $18,000 bill this cant be right....

for relevant mods it has exhaust (stock downpipes) intercooler, intake, BOV with charge pipe, and cobb stage 2 tuning. its had these mods for about 15,000 miles.

any advice here guys?

taking you for a ride... shouldn't cost anywhere near 18,000 to replace just the turbos. buying a brand new set of upgraded cost less including labor/installation.

You shouldn't of been running Stage 2, requires you have upgraded DPs.

If the turbos are the only things that need to be replaced, hit up Tischer (you'll save ~$16.5k). Otherwise this might be a good opportunity to shop for RBs if you're power hungry.

18k ?! get the fuck out of here. thats awful, theyre trying to rape you and pay off their mortgages with the spare left over money or something. go get yourself rb turbos and have them installed for 5k TOTAL for parts and labor. this makes me mad to hear.

I have been looking at RB's = $3500 plus $900 labour.

That's $5K total installed.

If you go to the dealer take a tube of KY with you....it will be less painful

On second thought...they really don't want your business because they are obviously scaring you off with such an outrageous price.

Did you bring it in tuned? If you did then i can't help you but if you brought it in with everything except the tune then you can bring up the Magnusson Moss warranty act. That basically says in order for them to make you pay for things when the cars under warranty they have to prove the aftermarket part directly caused the issue.

Call Vishnu and get on a list pronto to get the single turbo upgrade, its probably going to be somewhere around ~6000, and you'll have a monster power curve.

Thatd be pretty cool if it goes for that price. Surprising. But we'll see.

Just get the RBs. Single is nice but requires alot of modifications. That dealer has some balls to even quote something like that.

Not true - common misconception/internet lore about Magnusson Moss warranty act. Read the linked thread, in particular JSpira's post.
