Hmmm i see... Well it worked for me. I brought my car in for service with all mods on except for the JB4 and they started to complain. Literally as soon as i brought up the act they were quiet and didn't even mention any of my aftermarket parts after that.

its possible if the motor got damaged as well as the turbos! Otherwise, its a joke on the pricing. Most dealers in the US when i called charged about $5000 for a turbo replacement

I didn't see anything in JSpiras post to refute pmsmitty's comment. In fact, I've never heard of, nor have seen anyone think the "tie-in" part of the MMWA is what protects us.

IANAL, but it seems to me the MMWA is most certainly relevant here. NOTE: relevant and "will save your ass" aren't the same thing. Most if not all of the debate I've seen in this forum on MMWA really stems from the idea of MMWA, and the practical application of it.

There is no super special MMWA judge out there that says this is covered this isn't. The dealer will take their position, and you'll take yours. If the two parties can't agree, then inevitably it will end up in a court room for a judge to decide after one of the parties sue for the money to cover fixing the problem.

If your turbo dies, and you physically modified the turbine housing, the judge will undoubtedly rule against you. Likewise, if you modified the taillights and the engine fell out, the judge will undoubtedly rule in your favor (lets ignore the fact the dealer would never go to court under these circumstances). The grey area in between will just end up be determined by the judge based on expert testimony.

But lets us go back to the practical application aspect again. For most, the question is about whether or not a tune or DP's can void the warranty on the turbos. If whatever it costs to repair the problem is significant enough that it warrants the dealers effort and money to go to court over it, they probably will. On the other hand, if a stock downpipe popped off because of the increased output of the tune, and all it took was to put it on the lift and tighten things up, I highly doubt the dealers going to go to court over it, DESPITE the fact that they believe stock turbo output wouldn't have done it.

Bottom line: it's just a numbers game. One should do the math and see if it makes financial sense to go the whole 9 yards and fight em (and take the risk of losing even more money).. My personal opinion is that it probably wouldn't be too difficult to convince a judge that modifying turbo ouput is relevant to a turbo's warranty though ;-)

TL;DR: Avoid the situation all together and never let your dealer see mods. Sure you can get away with it, but why not just avoid the drama.

Oh yeah, and in closing, 18 grand could probably by you a new motor, including turbos and the labor to put it in and then some.

I know you've probably heard this already a couple times but you shouldn't be running stage 2 with stock downpipes. too much boost to be running on those downpipes. & honestly just buy bigger turbos & with labor & everything it'll still be wayyyy cheaper. good luck!!

i went through this last week with my local dealer. My rear turbo wastegate had gone bad and was stuck. They said it would be replaced under my CPO warranty, but 3 days later found my disconnected meth tube and voided my warranty and charged me for the replacement. Cost was $2675. I'm in the process of fighting the dealer for cost as I was told it was covered and then 3 days later after they had done the work that it wasn't covered, thus i did not authorize the work. Given the choice I would be waiting on shiv for a big single turbo upgrade.

I don't understand why you would bring your CPO into the dealership with mods and risk sweating a voided warranty. Hell I brought my CPO into BMW (actually they came to my work, a little older gentlemen picked up my car and left me with a nice loaner) and they replaced both turbos, vanos, bearings, and oil lines for a mere 50 dollar copay. It took me a whopping 20 minutes to disconnected my JB4 and DCI and it was well worth it. I understand your mods are a bit more extensive than mine and require more man hours to remove and replace back to stock...but the money saved was well worth it.

None the less I'm sorry to hear about your situation and I hope you're able to find a resolution that works best for you.

Way too much "chicken little, sky is falling" type stuff going on. It's real simple, you either pay or don't. OP, if BMW is truly denying CPO warranty work because of aftermarket parts then so be it. They will probably flag the car and deny any type of warranty work in the future as well. If your turbos are gone you can either get OEM replacements for about $1500 (roughly) + labor or upgrade for about $5000 out the door.

Replacing turbos in the 335i is totally different. The car must be lifted and the subframe dropped to make enough room and there is still just enough space to do it. It is totally DIY-able though and you can even do it on ramps.

Sorry for the trouble OP. I got quoted 1200 bucks for a blower resistor once, and when I went for the door they suddenly found a "slightly old part number" one for 220. Got on eBay for $40 instead.

900 bucks for a turbo swap on a RWD 335i? Does that include fluids and replacement OEM parts or just labor? If its just labor, I'm in the wrong profession.
