Glowplug code N57

Hello,

Plugged my code reader in the car for a routine check. Glowplug 6 code was thrown up. A couple of days later the car started idling funny when started, plugged the machine in again glowplug 6 was showing. I re-cleared and scanned and it disappeared.
My question is, is it the glowplug or the module at fault. If it is the module, is it easy to replace? as I have read there are access issues

Thanks
Reece

I had a similar issue, changed the glow plug controller which solved it.

As above, new glow plug controller sorted my cold start issues as well. It's more accessible on the N57, remove the engine cover, right hand side of the engine, it's tight & fiddly but I did mine without having to remove anything else.

The OEM one is Beru, you can get the same part without the BMW tax for considerably less money...

https://www.amazon.co.uk/BERU-GSE108.../dp/B01KPZNMPY

N57 uses the GSE108, M57 uses the GSE102, they're not interchangeable.

The glow plug module can be replaced without removing the inlet manifold but it is very fiddly and awkward. My mechanic mate managed to do mine in about 15-20 mins.

Appreciate the comments, I've booked a ramp for an hour to do, I initially tried to remove the big plug however it is a bellend to remove, any particular tool to remove it. I was thinking of spraying WD-40 overnight, to ease it

No need for a ramp and no special tools required, it's just extremely fiddly. I think its one of those jobs where you can get lucky and get the plugs off and have it out in no time or you can end up farting about with it for ages shouting and swearing at it while busting all your knuckles!
I took one look at mine and thought no thats not for me.
Good luck with it and let us know how you get on.

As above, you work from the top so no ramp required and WD40 would make it worse, it's just a fiddly fcuker of a job that takes perseverance & swearing!

Some jobs just need the right swear words for them to go right.

Good luck, and choose wisely!

I decided to throw the towel in after an hour of trying to take that baastard of a plug out. Booked in at my specialist quoting £166 inc vat . Funny thing is I rung up BMW and they quoted me over £300 + vat!

My specialist only supply and fit thus I have a BERU GSE108 controller up for sale if anyone wants

Gutted for you mate. Was really hoping you be posting an update of how pleased you were with yourself that you'd managed to do it!
Cant believe they're going to charge you so much for what is about 15mins work for someone who knows what they're doing and cant believe they wont fit the part you've got.
Hope you get it sorted and let us know how it all goes
