2007 e92 6MT with 3400 miles, space gray on coral red
My months long search for an e93 6MT came to an end with the purchase of an e92. I just couldn't pass this one up....still has that new car smell I kid you not. Bought it the same day it was listed. It was traded in at a local Audi dealer with 3300 miles on it for a very reasonable price. Yes, 3300 original miles. The factory plastic was still on the pedals and door sills. Unmolested, completely stock. The paint is buttery soft. It was clearly garaged and well kept, however barely driven (more on that below). Car has comfort access, active steering, xenons, sport seats, etc.
I've been enjoying the car in stock form for about a week now. It will be a weekend/project car for me. Eventually would like to get it to 400 whp and I will keep it cosmetically perfect. For now just taking care of maintenance and getting to know the car. I come from the Audi world. Coolant flush, brake fluid flush, oil change, air filter, cabin filter, trunk struts, hood struts are all on the agenda for next week. Bimmergeeks cable is on the way. I will be removing the ACC sensor ASAP and coding that out, since I hate the look of it on the otherwise beautiful front end. Any tips or suggestions on how to make sure she is maintained and happy before flashing MHD? Downpipes are in my near future after I get under the car for the coolant change and have a look around. The bad news: since it was barely driven, any warrantable issues were never found. I confirmed this by popping off the engine cover tonight and being confronted by two full banks of index 1 injectors. Most likely the HPFP is original as well . How long do you think these will last me? Do I have any recourse with BMW for replacement? Will MHD stage 1 kill them instantly? Pics of this beauty! What are all of the seals like after so many years? Any leaks from age? FWIW Index 1 injectors seem to be pretty reliable. |

Please tell me more about index 1 injectors being reliable? I had just assumed index 1 was the worst, index 12 the best. I'm not willing to let the ACC system go right away, since I may want to return the car to factory spec at some point. But if it starts collecting dust for a while, I'll consider selling it. Thanks! I'm curious your opinions on if the iDrive is desirable? I really wanted a single hump car without iDrive. More of a classic look and retro style. I think I need to upgrade this screen eventually...it is just too old and clunky. |

Even in newer cars I always use my phone in a vent clip because Apple/Google maps or Waze is better than any factory nav system, and you're not locked out of functions like you are with Android Auto or Apple Carplay. |

And especially with the 2007, you have the CCC version so it's definitely gonna feel dated. But I use my car as a daily, fun extended cruises type vehicle so I wanted the feature. Plus it's easier for me to mess with car settings on the idrive That replacement head unit you mentioned, I have plans to get one as well but I'd rather swap out the existing idrive screen than cut into the dash or mess with the deck.

Sweet! btw I bought my car new with 4 miles, I don't recall plastic on the pedals, could the seller have put that on? I don't see someone driving 3k with plastic on the pedals, might slip?
Also with that few miles, maybe it has not done all the software upgrades/recalls? My car is a 11/06 and it had the DME upgraded from a MSD80 to a MSD81 due to sporadic stalling. It was a huge deal back then, not everything was fixed by the hpfp, there was lpfp and DME + injectors. edit On mine it was a good 6+ mos of daily driving before the stalling started, then it had no codes whatsoever. The dealer ended up keeping my car for 3 weeks, BMW authorized replacement of the DME, never stalled again. It'd be interesting if when you unlock your car, if you don't hear the fuel pump. That happened after a software upgrade. also the seat belt arms and the way they extended, the TPMS, the oil change interval, all these changed through the years with software... then I forget how this goes, our cars are K-line and the newer D-CAN, I never knew the difference and my cables had a switch, it was always a PITA lol Last edited by John 070; 04-10-2021 at 11:56 AM.. |

yep a find for sure, usually something of this vintage with low miles, is a luxury sedan that maybe only a wealthy older person can afford, and combined with having multiple cars, miles are low.....if my income were unlimited I'd have a bunch of these types of cars! In my alternate fantasy universe, that is!

Seriously, with a post like that I assume you in middle or high school? OP please don’t listen to this nonsense your 2007 Index 1 injectors can leak and your oil will get diluted if they do, and you’ll need a new engine when the rod bearings fail and you throw a rod. Maintenance always before mods I would update to all the latest/last gen N54 injectors and fuel pumps. That car is beautiful! What a great spec. Congratulations on such an awesome “time capsule” find!!!

My symptoms started as intermittent hiccup that felt like a split second misfire on heavy to WOT. Also another misfiring issue that surfaced after prolonged constant speeds around 2.5k rpm. Evolved to odd cold starts and finally black soot flying out of my tail pipe. Pulled my plugs out to do VCG to chase the misfiring issue as it was slightly leaking and thinking oil started to get into a plug (and it did), but found one spark plug soaked with gas. Injector replaced, all issues resolved. Never got a single CEL or code

It started to burbled slightly more than normal on lift. I have MHD burble on but only have mine at 0.6s and it seemed to run on every so often right before replacement
And I tested it with MHD standstill burble on softest. It was slightly louder and more aggressive then now with the setting one step up and catless DPs

I'll look into the other points you mentioned and let you know. Thanks! That sensor is so ugly and destroys the symmetry of the front end. It looks like a giant zit and it's gotta go. Honestly it is a feature I will never use. Regular cruise control is good enough for me, and I rarely use that on my daily driver anyway. Purely cosmetic reason for removing it. I will post a photo before and after. Last edited by R3dLeader; 04-10-2021 at 03:01 PM.. |
