Was reading this post again, do you know the latest tranny software version for our cars e90 330i? I never done any updates so I wonder if I should or not.

My tranny is good, I sometimes get hesitation on 1-2nd gear. No issues downshifting. I am also due for new coils and vanos. i did a fluid flush couple of years ago but never reset adaptations or did any software update. cheers!

I just updated my car last weekend; I have the latest version of ISTA with a dedicated tablet and I have all the REAL hardware including ICOM. My transmission was not on the list for update when I ran all the updates. If I remember correctly, the last time I updated my transmission was a couple of years ago. I'd have to check the version on my transmission now to let you know what I'm running; but I'm out of town until this weekend, so it'll be a few days...

No worries there I see, so if your tranny was not on the list, how did you update it? Also, how much did you have to pay for all the hardware you have? cuz I wonder if its cheaper to go to the dealership to do this update?

I would like to update mine since I never done it...

I did not update the tyranny, it is already up to date. I updated a few other modules. ISTA checks the current software version of all your installed modules against the latest release automatically. Only the modules in need of update will be updated. However, you can select individual modules and update manually if you'd like. As far as cost, I just spent 1,100 for the software, computer, cables, and icom unit. For me, it is well worth the investment as I use it all the time. Whether or not it would be worth it for you to purchase it is dependent on how much you will use it.

I would love to make a San Diego field trip, but I am really busy right now and just won't have the time in the very near future. If you plan to be in the Phoenix area any time in the near future, send me a message and I can hook you up (a lot less than the dealer will charge)

Hey GoRomeo, please share what you find costwise and in general. My new to me 77k mile 330i has this irritating prob and it's messing with my ocd big time. Plus I keep thinking I should have stayed with mt and forced my wife to learn to shift.

Zigsman, you are my hero on this topic.
GoRomeo and i may have to team up to fly you in here on a mission of mercy. The downtown San Diego Hyatt is really nice.

I'm actually considering doing a half-assed fluid/filter change as an interim, hoping it helps. Damn automatics!! I swapped the clutch on my e36 on jackstands without blinking an eye but auto transmissions freak me out.

See if you can schedule a group of folks for a weekend in December. If we can get enough together (maybe 4 or more?), I can make the trip worth while. I'll charge $40 a car for the update; I'll bring everything required to get it done.

btw I'm going to try -TRY- and do at least a fluid/filter swap before the upgrade happens. Having just bought this thing a few weeks back, I really have no idea what's in there.

Hey Mr Zigsman is coming to San Diego this week. Do you still have issues with your tranny? He has all the software and hardware to do it. I believe the meet is this Thursday

I was having the same issue with my auto tranny...it almost felt like I was getting rear-ended as I was coming to a stop...that is how hard it jolted. I replaced the mechatronics seal adapter in the transmission 3 weeks ago and have not experienced this issue since. Don't confuse this with the "sleeve", the mechatronics seal adapter is located at the top of the valve body and sits between it and the body of the transmission. You will need to drop the pan/filter and remove the mechatronics to get to it. It is a very simple task...just do your tranny service with this along with the sealing sleeve as well. The mechatronics adapter is about $10 and the sealing sleeve is about $17 (it is known to leak).

Here is a great website for transmission parts:
http://www.thectsc.com/

Here are the links for the parts for this fix:

Follow this task to replace the adapter:

Sleeve Replacement Task:

UPDATE!!

After a few months of driving I have found the "bump" came back! So, just replacing the parts I listed above did NOT fix the problem. I did finally get it fixed though. I ended up replacing all of the solenoids in the mechatronics which has fixed the problem permanently. Here is a link to the kit:

http://www.thectsc.com/index.php?p=p...d=36&parent=52

Right now it is on sale for $455 dollars. The kit comes with instructions...it is really simple. Once you have the mechatronics removed, you separate the plastic piece from the body and the release a retaining plate. The solenoids then just pop in and out easily. Make sure you get the correct kit for your transmission, the link above is for the 6H19/26/32 M-Shift. You may have to pull your mechatronics out first to visually verify which model you have.

PM me if you have any questions.

Zigsman,

Thanks for all the input! So i have the same issue with 2-1 jerky shift and it sucks. Does not happen in DS and i also had it go into limp mode 2 diff times in the last 1.5 mths. Really frustrating. My friend is a BMW master tech that worked at the dealer and now has a shop. He got a fault code for the trans and has not gotten back to me in over a week. It seems like hes kinda prone to saying " trans needs to be replaced " when we spoke about it before he got the code. Im dying during the wait for the info he has gathered. Seems like the dealer or anyone that was trained at the dealer will always just say to replace the whole thing. Fuck that, im not trying to hear it. I've spent a lot on the car already and really dont want to buy a new transmission. Do you think that 2-1 downshift issue that you said is prob the solenoids would kick a code out? Does it sound like i have 2 separate issues? The car drives perfect. when it went into limp mode, it was driving so good! Makes no sense. I was in a higher gear prob like 4th or 5th when it happened. It has 115k on it and i understand that its 10 years old now, but a lot has happened with it and i dont want to keep losing, but also feel like ive invested and should just deal with the issue rather than sell the car. Anyway, i could talk for hours about this car and my experience with it but for now transmission talk will do. Please let me know if you have any view on the matter as i wait for the possible bad news from my tech. Thank you!
