Sunroof Want Or tilt.
I have a 2009 335i 4 sedan. The sunroof want open or tilt. I have had the codes wiped that did not work. They said it was the motor so I replaced that. I changed out the overhead dome light with control panel. Now I went to put the new control panel back in and i have no power to the control panel and I changed the fuses, although I don't know if I changed the right ones. Does this model have a relay for the sunroof? Can somebody please help.
thanks 76jem |

sunroof
I don't know the only reason i had the codes wiped in the first place is someone on the internet told me to try that. So i had a cracked valve cover that had to be replaced so i them try it. Cost me a $100.00 and then they said it was the motor. I don't know alot about these cars. I am a VW and Porsche guy.

Awesome forum. Finally took the time to wash my car after work today and noticed the sunroof was aligned below the roof line. Followed the instructions and now it lines up perfectly literally...hopefully it'll reduce some of the wind noise I hear on my commute. Thanks everyone !

Sunroof on 328icoupe stuck in tilt position
I need help! Same issue just happened to me. My 2011 328i coupe sunroof is stuck in the tilt position and won't go back down. I've tried resetting it, that didn't work and I've tried to manually bring it down. That also didn't work. Someone help please

Has anyone tried to actually replace the slider instead of cutting it?
I'm reading the repair instructions and it says the water channel support can't be removed without breaking, but I cannot find its part number. It's this piece: Can't find it in the ETK ... Any ideas? ==EDIT== Now that I look at it more closely, I think the rain gutter (54137127568) comes with these holders included. Can anyone confirm? Last edited by rustyx; 04-22-2018 at 04:47 AM.. |

Hey, my sun roof was working to open, but not closing once it hit the leaf springs that hold the plastic cover up when open, I tried initializing it and now it is stuck open in vent mode. Please help me.

My sunroof makes several loud ‘click/snap’ sounds and stops whenever I try to slide it all the the way open. I have a feeling theres an obstruction near the end of the track. Does anyone know how one would get access to that part of the track? Thanks in advance!

I'm having the same issue. I tried to reinitialize mine as well but no luck. It won't budge. I took it apart to find the small little metal gear cog was broken. Anyone have this same issue?

It took me a few tries but it worked. The key for my situation was to power the car down after getting the sunroof closed all the way. I then did as prescribed-key inserted, pushed the start button, and pushed the sunroof button for “vent” in and held it there. The sunroof vented immediately, then after 10sec the cycle of closing, opening up all the way and closing occurred. I held the button pushed in the entire time.
UPDATE: This didn’t fix it, I mistakenly thought it did. It turned out to be a bad switch (front overhead dome and sunroof switch). I purchased a used one on eBay for $44 and it fixed the issue for good. Last edited by Save-A-Horse; 01-02-2022 at 07:30 AM.. |

Tried this procedure today and sunroof went to vent but did not close or slide back then close. Waiting to try it with engine running method, after that? What would be next ? 2011 335i sedan.

I have a 328xi e91 wagon. And I had the same issue with the sunroof that would open but not close again after that. The e91 has a rear section and a front section, and the rear section stays up. The e91 has the problem that the rear Bowden cable attachments are rusting (dropping rust pieces in the sliding rails). The plastic sliders attached to the other end are also getting brittle. Pieces were breaking off that resulted in the rear section no longer lowering. FCPEuro sells a rework kit that exactly address these pieces:
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...mw-54107227894 The big challenge is: To put in the new parts in, you have to take the entire mechanism out. This is a bit daunting for many. In my case, I decided to simply deactivate the back part for the moment as the plastic pieces were broken anyways. This prevents the back portion from lifting in the first place. The front portion will now function normally. I will get around to the rest later and I know I cannot suppress my 'everything has to be perfect OCD'. Although holding the lift button for re-initialising works in many cases, I found that with too many calamities going on with the sunroof mechanism, that process may fail and rendering the roof open. And the system stops responding to the button press re-init. You are better off using INPA or even better ISTA/D to re-initialize. I highly recommend that before you start the re-init process, you manually open the sunroof by cranking the sunroof motor by hand all the open and close to ensure the mechanism is free from obstruction first. The re-initialisation removes the obstruction sensing limits. It normally senses obstruction by measuring typical current draw though the open/closing process. Obviously, when that limit it removed it will try as hard as possible to open/close. So, if there are mechnical problems it will probably end up breaking the mechanism. Hence the hand crank first. I actually think that when the re-init is incomplete or fails the mechanism will set the lowest current limits or will go to a state where it needs a ISTA+ override to do anything at all, out of safety protection. I found this to be a useful (e91) video as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXpDcy8C56Y And this video gave me great insight in how the mechanism is put together and how it works. It took a little while for me to fully understand it (because half of it you cannot see when it is installed). It comes from a guy that used to run around the US dealers to train them on how to fix sunroofs (derived from comments to video): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDhEJvqQXo4 and this potato camera video of the same (German) guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXUxdirwino Sorry, it is a bit e91 focused because that is what I have, but the e90 is just a subset of this mechanism (delete the rear portion). I hope this helps you! Last edited by rt7085; 06-28-2022 at 05:38 AM.. |

Hi. I have been retrofitting a RLS sensor.
Now the sunroof won’t open. I have tried to reset it but it won’t work. The fuses are ok. I have completely disconnected the fzd module. Any idea? |
