Voice command doesnt see the phones phonebook

You have to set up its own entries through voice command

Not sure what you mean, Fleet. The speech recognition (and this is true speech recognition which doesn't require training) can poll the mobile's phonebook in cars with CCC. If speech recognition doesn't work, the mobile mightn't be compatible. Or, the car might not have the CCC and no voice recognition for the phone (cars with M-ASK have voice recognition which requires training for each entry).

syncing phone book

I had to upgrade the software on my blackberry before the idrive would sync with my phone book. If you can see your phone list on the idrive when you look at the A-Z list, then it has synced. If its not there you probably need to upgrade your phone software. There are some other posts on how to do this. One other tip, if your first phone book entry is a group list, the sync will stop at that entry and not look farther. I had to move my group contact lists to the back by renaming them zzname1 etc. so that it picked up all my phone numbers. voice command is not that great for recognizing names phonetically so keeping the important ones simple, helps (eg home). Hope that helps. If you don't have idrive, I can't help

Actually, if you don't see your phonebook, it is much more likely to mean your mobile is not fully compatible.

Regarding speech recognition, the system actually responds better to words longer than one syllable so "home" is not as clear to the system as "my office" would be.

my experience with voice recognition of multiple syllables is the opposite to what your experience has been. I am keeping it simple - one to two syllables - in order to be able to get it to work accurately.

Gary, first it really depends on whether you are talking about voice recognition with cars with M-ASK or true speech recognition with cars with CCC.

Both however would have some trouble differentiating between various entries e.g. "Jon" "Don" "Mom" "Tom" etc.

That is why the documentation for such systems recommends verbose naming.
