Valentine One Radar - POP specifically
I have an e46 and an e92 on order... so even though this is slightly OT for the forum I hope I can get some answers.
I have a V1 that I purchased in 2002. The website claims it has the most up-to-date software except for one exception: POP protection. I live outside of Atlanta, GA and am not really sure if the local cops/troopers even use POP? Does anyone else have a V1? Has anyone else paid for the upgrade to POP? If so, have you noticed a difference? |

1. Yes. I upgraded 2 units to POP. (I was doing annual 25,000 miles of driving at the time. Now I'm doing about 5,000)
2. More false alarms, otherwise, it seemed to make no difference. |

I think just based on what POP is the V1 would have to be way more sensitive to short bursts of K or Ka which previously wouldn't have caused alarm...
I wonder if POP causes the same refraction/reflection affect that standard radar usage caused, where you could get detection even if the gun wasn't pointed directly at you. If not, you are pretty much F'd anyway because by the time you know they hit you, they know how fast you were going. |

I just upgraded to the new V1 with POP. It does give a J indication for a "junk" signal. The case is also a bit smaller. Not sure if yours had the smaller case. My old one was from 2000. It probably makes sense to upgrade. A ticket costs a lot more.

How bad are these false alarms... in terms of volume and annoyance cos I heard the V1's a lot more sensitive in general (compared to an Escort Passport X50)?
Not to cause an uproar, I've searched about V1 etc. on the forums and am considering it and the X50.

Definitely buy the V1 or X50. Buying anything less than that isn't worth it, IMO. The X50 is my first detector, so I don't miss the arrows but their owners swear by them. |

I have 2 V1's, mine and my wife's. I sent both in for firmware updates for POP protection. Prior to sending them in and the primary reason for doing so was because I seemed to be getting snuck up on quite a bit by motorcycle cops standing at the side of a road and pointing the radar gun directly at me. I got nothing from the V1.
I sent both V1s in July 2005 and have not noticed any additional "traffic" or false alarms from what I had before. I do occasionally get the J come up on it, but not much.

Everytime other time a cop pulls me over he says something like, Oh you have a nice car paying for a ticket shouldn't be a big deal. I hate that. Maybe if we had a retarded statement detector we could avoid tickets for good. Anyway, I would rather have traffic police than not have them at all.
PS. If the police wanted to be liked by the public more they would contract the ticket giving to an outside source |

I have a solo S2 and like it. Haven't had any problems with it myself, and is supposedly the best up-to-date wireless detector on the market? Wireless is nice so I dont have to worry about hard wiring anything. My buddy swears by it, but I still trust my eyes more then the detector.

I have the V1. When I considered doing the POP upgrade I ultimately decided not to get it. The POP will basically inform you to look at the dash so you can answer the pigs typicall how fast were you going question.
I'm more interested into a laser jammer.
