Timing Sprocket Bolt Issue

I have a 2011 328i with an N51 motor and I just had my oil pan gasket changed by my local INDY shop. I received a call and was told they found two screws at the bottom of the oil pan that came from my timing sprockets. (Pictured) I was told this is common but haven't found a lot about this on the web or the forums. Has anyone seen this problem?

INDY shop is quoting me $2,300 to address bolts on both intake and exhaust sprockets of which $922 of it is labor.

Check for the vanos bolt recall here. https://www.bmwusa.com/safety-and-emission-recalls.html

It should be free at the dealer.

If you have no open recalls, the dealer just left the broken bolts in the oil pan when the recall was done in the past. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showp...7&postcount=20

Ohhh how I hope you are so right. I just wish there was a website to show you the history of recalls preformed on your car. I can't see if this recall was ever issued for my car and I don't have any open recalls.

Here is one more link to check. Some engines that did not get the recall got an extended warranty. http://www.bmw-rp.com/production/bmw...bmw_portal.nsf

If that still shows nothing, you can run a $5 car fax here. https://www.autovhr.com/deal/
That will show which dealers worked on the car. You can then call them and ask if them see the vanos bolt recall has been completed.

Thanks. I'll give that a shot. I've been back to the dealer for recalls that aren't showing up on the CarFax which is weird

Is there a PDF from BMW stating the terms (year and milage) of the vehicles that they will reimburse for this repair? I'm on the fence about getting this done and would do it right away if I could get reimbursed from BMW. Not sure they will with my car being a 2011 with 129K miles

Thanks for the information as I found the service bulletin for this repair. I'm going to reach out to my INDY shop first to see if they can do the repair under warranty as they're close to my house. I've also reached out to the dealer so hopefully I'll have some luck with one of these locations. Thanks again for all the help.

If you do it at an indy, they have to have a good relationship with the local dealer or they won't get reimbursed. So you'll have to pay them, then you'll have to deal with BMW NA (possibly through your dealer) to get a reimbursement check.

Thinking about reaching out to BMW NA directly to have the tell me what to do. Need to find their info to contact them to ensure I'm covered
