Anyone has any idea if there is a DVD version of this file? I have an 09 e92 with the original version of firmware for the CIC (usb updates wont work with this version) with the 2009 version of maps. I do have 2018 DVDs but would like to install 2019 version if possible. I am going to trade in or sell the car soon so would not want to go through the firmware update just for the sake of installing latest maps.

What does the directory/file structure of your 2018 DVD look like? If the contents are similar to the 2019 download, you may be able to just burn a DVD.

But if you're planning to trade-in or sell the car soon, you're probably not going to get anything different in terms of $$$ whether it has the 2018 or 2019 nav update.

The contents are similar. I havent had a chance to compare the exact files though. Not updating the maps to get more value off the car. But the reason I didnt update to 2018 was, that map didnt contain my home address(new construction in 2018). I am hoping that the 2019 map has my home address.

According to another forum member in another thread 2019-1 will be the last map update for CIC/Premium.

Guys I've downloaded the files, used winrar to extract it to my 32GB flash drive formatted in Fat32. When I plug it into the USB port in the glove box on my '09 M3, it does nothing. If I go into multimedia settings it doesn't show it connected either. Any ideas ??
My USB looks like the pic that Unrulyteach posted on page 2.

And yet I have been offered 2019-2 as a paid update from two map vendors this year.

I have similar issue. I have a 2009 M3 with CIC. I was able to pull the 1b.hex file and retrieve my fsc code, maps are downloaded and on a USB ready to go. When I plug it into the vehicle, there is no prompt. I believe my car software needs to be updated. I've heard ICOM/ISTA-P hardware/software may be needed to do this. I do not have the 'update software' in my drop-down list in the CIC system.

Finally got around to upgrading mine from the 18 to 19 maps.

Make sure its FAT32 formatted and not exFAT (Mac peeps; issue I ran into not paying attention).

Thanks!

It appears that there may be 2020 maps for CIC (Premium), as ETK data shows an entry for "North America Premium 2020"

SUCCESS!

After many trial & errors and with the assistance of Gary and Jagaer I was able to update my vehicles navigation maps to North America 2019 via USB. I have a 2009 BMW (E90) M3 with production date 09/2008 CIC.

Originally I thought my cars software needed to be updated first, but in the end that was not the case. At first I had some issues with just generating the 1b.hex file. Once I had the 1b.hex file - I would receive errors from the CIC generator to pull the FSC code. Jagaer was able to assistance with fixing my 1b.hex file (Thanks again!). Used the newly formated 1b.hex file, I was able to generate my FSC code. Downloaded the maps via the zip file on the first page (that took 7 hrs), only for them not to prompt the update in the vehicle (could be corrupt files). I tried numerous times to get the vehicle to recognize the maps (split screen/non-split screen, etc). I tried 3 different USBs all formated to FAT32. Nothing was working - I was about to just forget updating the navigation. Gary supplied the 2019 map file that he used - that took another 7 hrs to download. I moved the files to my USB this morning.

Final attempt:
- Start vehicle, let navigation start up
- Insert USB into glovebox port
- Scrolled all the way over to the right (made sure it was on non-split screen view)
- Scrolled to the bottom where it says 'Navigation Version' (did NOT click into it).
- Scrolled back to the main map screen
- Pushed down on the CIC knob (this unchecked the 'i' that shows the time in top right corner in grey box)
- Two seconds later I was prompted to update the navigation
- Entered FSC Code
- Took 57 minutes to download the entire map update
- Upon completion, navigation prompts to restart the system

*One last note* I was able to use a 128GB USB that actually had files on it including the 2019 maps and it still worked.

Congrats!
Did you use a battery charger or just idled the car?
Can anyone confirm whether the single USB method automatically resume upon restarting car?
I wonder whether I shoukd risk it with a battery charger or try just let it run whenever I drive until it's finished.

I didnt want to risk anything, so I did this on the drive to work. Then idle in work parking garage until it was done.

So I can't answer your question of if it will continue the update if you shut the car down and then back on.

I just let my X3 idle in the garage (door open) while it was installing the update.

Wow! Glad you got yours to work. I called bimmer tech and was told my car is still running original software and has to be updated.
I too got the direct file from Gary, so I know the file is good. I just got off the phone with the dealership and they’re quoting $300 to do a software update!!

I’m going to try your method when I get home tomorrow and hopefully it will work. I already have an FSC code. My build date is the same as yours 09/08. Wish me luck!

Yeah originally I went through BimmerTech and they told me the same thing. That my car software needed to be updated. Called dealership and they had no idea what I was talking about and if they could figure it out, it wouldn't be cheap.

Since yours is same build as mine you should be able to get it to work without the car software update to accept USB updates. Does your navigation have the 'i' in the lower left corner?

Make sure that all your files are good, a lot of the files on here are corrupt. I ended up having to use Gary's maps, and a different file to pull the 1b.hex file. But even that file was corrupted and I needed Jagaer to fix the 1b.hex file to generate the fsc code.

Yes, you just need to make sure you have the "i" and if so you can definitely update it. Mine is a 09/2008 Model year 2009 and it took me a while the first time to figure it out and get the update started. If you have the "i" and the correct files it will work.

OK, I'll see if someone else can confirm the resume functionality for this before I attempt it. I don't have any 1 hour trips planned anytime soon.

I have the same problem: that is, I'm not getting a prompt for FSC code. Mine is 07/2009 build 328i with CIC.
I do not see this 'i' thingy. What does that look like? Should my car from 07/2009 have it?

edit:
Here is what I see on my nav. See attached.
