my bmw e90 2010 is making a weird sound for last few months.

most of the times it happens when i start the cat in the morning or when the engine is cold.

i have uploaded a sound file that i recorded if you guys can find any clue from that.

thanks

Given the age, I'd suggest its the harmonic balancer. I have a 2009 E90 and have had the a high-pitched noise for the last couple of years at least.

The dealer replaced a couple of pulleys to no avail. Next step (according to both the dealer and an independent mechanic) is replacing the harmonic balancer.

Has it gotten worse since then? Any CEL? Have you scanned the ECU?

Very wise but don’t take to dealership, you’ll end up needing a new engine

The audio clip is not great but it sounds more transmission related.
Can you hear it at idle with the car parked? Does the pitch change when you stab the gas pedal quickly or hold revs steady at say 1800rpm?

they did not see any leak but they said if the sound comes back then they will need to remove few other components to have a better look at it.
