N51 engine in New York?
i have an 07 328xi and was surprised to see on realoem when i entered my vin that i have a N51 (SULEV) engine. I thought these engines were only used in California to meet state law specifications there? Does anyone else have an N51 outside of California? I will double check when i get home later tonight to see if i have a DISA adjuster on my intake manifold to confirm. Upside - I might have the 3 stage intake manifold
Downside - realoem still shows that i have the dreaded GA6L45R transmission |

You can find that engine up the coast on the West and along the NorEaster states mostly. N51 isn't bad though, you do get the 3-Stage Intake Manifold so a software tune will get you up to 330i power and torque figures or so they say. All aftermarket upgrades will still work too.

NY is a CARB state. They choose to follow California's emissions standards.

In addition to CARB emissions, the N51 boasts a slightly higher mpg which increases the overall CAFE ratings required for meeting EPA guidelines, resulting in higher allocations of the SULEV engine. I have an N52 in California, which as a ULEV, still exceeds California emissions standards.
