If BMW upgrades your software

You will need to reload dinan

But dinan does not charge for that

I had the Stage II tune done at my local dealership and I absolutely love it. It wasn't that noticeable at first but after about a 2-3 week "break in" period the torque and response is definitely much improved. I would recommend it to anyone, especially since it is dealer installed and fully backed by the warranty.

Take a peek under N55 Drag Times. The Stage Two Dinan shaved 1/2 a second off my otherwise stock 335.

I just wish the new Stage Three software had bigger gains.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...=504328&page=9

I highly recommend the Dinan Stage Two.

Did you need the Dinan oil cooler or is the factory oil cooler able to handle the stage 2 Dinan?

I have had the Dinan Stage II from the release date, Had it installed at Budd's BMW in Oakville. They are one of the largest BMW dealerships in North America and are Dinan's largest dealer.

The car handle's very well. I have had the opportunity to demo a stock vs. PPK1 vs. Dinan Stage II right at the dealership. The difference between all three is real and very noticable. But as others have pointed out, there are other mod options such as AA, JB and others that work very well.

In business, a company like Dinan doesn't stay in business for as long as they have if they are "out to lunch on pricing". Bottom line, find a tune that fits your budget and your needs and burn those tires!!!

Now I am just waiting for my LSD to arrive....

Stop making this a tuner value debate as this is not the situation. Dinan is the only tuner willing to out their money where their mouth is.
Why do none of the other tuners offer any kind of warranty? The reasons are self evident. Dinan is more conservative than other tunes in terms of its horsepower but not its torque.

If you don't mind burning out your engine, or needing to prematurely replace turbos and others key parts of your powertrain by all means go get a more cost effective, high boost tune. But isn't that what an M3 is for?

Active Autowerkes makes a great tune fir the N55 as well. It is cheaper than Dinan but allot more than the piggyback. But has no warranty. Cobb will come out with one in the similar price range I am sure.
Great post Dinan gets bashed hard on this forum especially the N54 section. I have a couple of their products on my car. Nice to purchase HP products developed by actual engineers with OE or better quality/execution in a top notch facility and backed by a reliable warranty!
Having said that: GIAC software>Dinan software imho..

This really hits the nail on the head. Let them bash, until their hack tune blows something up under their hood and they come onto the forum crying for help because the dealer gave them the flip off lol...

Ridgefield BMW (in CT) supports Dinan tuning, as does Bridgeport.

You meant tri-state NY/NJ/CT right?

Yes brother- the only ones in NJ I know of are Prestige in Ramsey NJ
and Circle in Eatontown- both a bit of a hike for me, but hopefully I never have to see them for a 'mishap'...

who is the retard that takes a tune car to dealer without clearning the codes and taking out the tune it self? So far after 12000 mile cars runs great with jb4, race gas and DP's etc... Dinan is good, JB4 is better and Cobb wlll be my first choice when it first comes out. My neigbhor had dinan stage 2 on his n54 and was anti JB4 until he finaly tried it and never looked back.

Oh I totally agree bro but just read these forums and you'll see that they do exist. Besides from what I understand Sam clearing the codes doesn't mean jack- they can still find out something happened if it came down to a claim- any truth to this?

I had jb4, moved on to Dinan s2, and was happier with it. Strange things happen.

As for code clearing, I can do it, albeit not automatically, via my p3 gauge. Thing is I don't have codes to clear just yet.

I'm moving up to s3 since there is still no Cobb or GIAC on the horizon. Honestly, the Dinan tune is smoother and better than my prior accessport results on my old wrx and sti.

There is always oe tuning for a real custom flash that should be relatively flexible. I'd have gone that route over Cobb and Giac without Dinan being available.

Dinan tune with an automatic trans

Anyone out there have the Dinan tune with an automatic transmission? If so, I would like to know how the shift points are affected. I have owned other cars with tunes and automatic transmissions, and the behavior was negatively impacted. One tune always forced the transmission to hold each gear too long, while another tended to shift too abruptly. Any thoughts here?

Yes I have a stage III with my automatic N55.
Not really versed on the whole shifting thing- I just know it's plenty powerful for me.

OP, be wary of power claims, dyno results in other threads show about the same power as the PPK for stage 1.

Lol... if I spent as much money on Dinan as you, I'd be trying to find justification as well.

Dinan Stage 3 software: $2300
Dinan Oil Cooler: $1600
Dinan Intercooler: $1600

Grand Total: $5700
My total: $2000

C'mon man, I had the PPK before this. I don't really know what the numbers are, so I will get proven results either way- been meaning to.

I can't wait to get on a dyno...will have results soon I hope...just gotta find one in NJ- anyone know a good one? That's open on Saturdays?
Also which KIND of dyno is best for our RWDs? Mustang? Butt dyno?

I have Dinan stage 2 software and dinan exhaust... plenty happy with it. I run errands and drive spirited on weekends. No real driving during the week since i commute to NYC via bus/train. Its personal preference i guess.

I bought the car new in May and am about to hit 4k miles... shows you how much i drive haha.

The PPK can be compared to the lowest stage Dinan tune (I only see stage 2 and 3 on their website??). From what I have seen on other posts though, their power claims are to the crank, not to the wheels (that's 'about' a 15% inflation over the power actually getting to the ground, due to drivetrain loss. Dyno numbers show you power to the wheels.

Here's a good article on the difference between dynos:
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=214597

If you were are serious about the "butt dyno" comment, I'm gonna be nice here, lol... "butt dyno" is just referring to people's perception of their power. As in, "I sat in my car and drove it and it feels like it's got 300hp!" It's not an actual dyno device.

If you don't care about absolute power gains and want a little more pep in your car while still maintaning your warranty and not having to worry about that stuff, then the Dinan is a fine choice. I personally think they price gouge and they have had their share of problems with their tunes (do a search on the forums), but you are paying for the piece of mine (warranty).
