got my custom made steering wheel but i am a little bit disappointed...

seller said the M sports trim and paddles will fit but it didn t, the steering is not as thick as the M sports one nor is it soft. the worst part was after i test it, whole section in the left was just cold, not heating up.

steering will be returned before the end if the year...........just not my luck

paid $459.....not a cheap price! an got it in a plastic bag.....

If not heating up, the heater element unit in the bottom of steering is the issue.
For mine, left and right are not as warm as top and bottom.
Not sure how yours is missing out just the left

from what i understood, the issue with heating more or less intense has to do with the thickness of the leather. is you steering having different leather on different sections ? (like mine has normal and perforated)

i believe they broke the mat while putting the leather on the steering

Rather, I have a spare ciagrette lighter socket and wiring from a wrecked car, does anyone know if all E90s have the plug for this with or without the Smoker's Package? If so, then I can just plug in that donor OE harness and tap into it for power.
most LCI e9x models that come without ash tray have this:

If anyone is looking, I have a full set of heated steering wheel with buttons (non-sport), airbag (post-recall), trim with the heat button, and all the wiring and connectors needed to plug in under the cigarette lighter jack (including that connector).

80 plus shipping? *shrug* make an offer

Hi guys, hope someone is still reading this thread

Found this thread looking for the heated wheel retrofit and have allready found all the parts.
I'm about to start on the cable loom and have a question.
What type of wire do you use?
The opening post states 18 and 20 gauge (AWG) but the diagram shows 0,75 and 0,35. That's 18 and 22 if i'm not mistaken (I'm a metric guy …).

Any info is much appreciated

I used 18 for the power and used bmw oe cable for the control wires, because when I cut the control buttons out of the donor car, I kept enough cable that I didn't need to use new wire.

either 20 or 22 should be okay... could probably even use 26 and it would still work, since the wire is carrying only a few milliamps and is only a couple of inches long.

Still willing to make a cable for this conversion? and did the new steering wheel you have, have paddles? if so, did you make cables for that or can there be premade ones bought from BMW?

Goes without saying you must have the steering in center before working on all this.

The wire to heater element controller on steering is seen here.

The power to that wire is connected using pin 7,9,10, and 12 as seen in pic.

Even without 12 pin plug, you can plug 6 pin to the first row of pins, the push release should face the second row of pins

Removal and replacement of clock spring will need to recalibrate 4x4 DSC etc codes. There are tools on Amazon made for BMW under $100
How possible is to connect the wires to the clock sprint ??
I open it and I am little confused 😐

You don't connect wires to clock spring. Clock spring and heated steering all must be factory connections. But clock spring comes with 12 pin connector that must mate to a factory wire coming from steering column. You must splice power into that wire.
Your car does have it, so you must buy it of cars that do. I got mine of X1, you can look at other cars with similar steering wheels.

It will go in to F5 fuse
I need a couple of them for the ACC and LDM too.
Another Q, i was thinking of route the PT bus from the LDM to the FRM as it's close but when i looked at the colors of the bus cables at the FRM they did not match in colors(not blue/red, red)i think they were either yellow and light blue or something, they are going in on #43 and #44.
It's an 2009 E91

Crimp connectors

A couple questions for the new 12 and 3-pin connectors:
  1. Do you need a special tool to remove the pins from the existing 12-pin connector?
  2. For new wires that you're adding, are you using crimp connectors to place into the terminals? If so, what crimp connectors are correct?

Thanks.
