'check engine soon' light into a road trip... looking for advice

hey guys. I have a 2011 335d. at 38600 miles on a road trip earlier today the check engine light came on. it has never come on before and it has been on ever since. I drove 40 miles since it came on. I have another 300 miles to go before I head back home on Sunday. do you recommend I find a mechanic asap or can i wait another 300 miles? just trying to understand the severity. thanks

Just wait the 300 miles; should be no problem waiting.

If stressed, get Autozone (or someone else free) to read the codes before deciding. Likely it's something related to the SCR/DEF system, which can be very safely ignored. The operative word in the SES acronym is "Soon".

Your car will go into limp mode if it's something roadtrip stopping worthy.

The thing about those generic OBD2 code readers is they don't give an accurate code like the BMWhat (Carly) app will.
