e92 - Don't use "Spot Free Rinse" at the carwash

For months I have had this white "gluey" residue on the inside of my windows, and everytime I rolled them up and down it got worse.

Dealer couldn't figure out what it was from, so I did my own investigation.

Turns out that it was the Spot Free Rinse from the manual carwash. The Spot Free Rinse is the last thing you're supposed to use on the car, so it dry's clean and with no spots. I figure it may be a combination of my tinted windows, and because there is no door frame on the window.

I have stopped using the Spot Free Rinse, and everythings A'OK!

Just thought I'd let you guys know.
Cheers!

Weird. I always figured the spot free rinse was simply softened water.

Phew. For a moment there, I thought you would say the spot free rinse was Aquafina.

I always thought it was more like harsh/strong chemicals that were used. Either way I would never use one for my bimmers, now thanks to your post I won't use them for my company car either.

hmm, never had that happen on any of my cars and one was a coupe w/o a fully framed door. I only use touchless washes and then I only use Laserwashes so maybe they use a different chemical or none at all?

no thats not it. i had the sticky residue as well.. it is the cover that bmw puts on the cars when shipping so that it doesn't rust..

you can easliy take it off with friction and if you constantly rub it, it will wash off.. just get a microfiber towel and rub hard.. maybe use a little water and soap and ur fine! has NOTHING to do w/ the spot free rinse

You mean you are not supposed to use the hose inside your car as well as outside??

That's correct. Ususally the spot free rinse is just distilled water (info gleaned from a guy who owns 3 carwashes).

+1

if that was the issue, I'd imagine the interior would be wet every time it rained

the interior of the car shouldn't get wet when washing your car (unless you're way more thorough than me)

Or unless you have a vert and leave the top down!
