taping car before polish?

I have a 2008 328 coupe, black mettalic,

I will be attempting a full detail for the first time this weekend.

I will be polsihing with a Porter cable 7424XP

What do I need to tape up before I start?

edges around hood/trunk etc or nor not necessary?

how is the BMW clearcoat?

Use blue tape to cover trim pieces around the windows and the moon roof, and anything else you don't want an abrasive or wax on.

Take your time and do it in sections. If you've never done a full detail before, then try a full detail on one section of your trunk lid before doing anything else, so you can get a feel for how the PC works, as well as the polish, waxes and pads you'll use, and how they break down.

90% of a detail is in the prep work. The final 10% is a good paint sealant and/or wax.

And most of all - Have fun!
