320D remapped for christmas

Hi,

I'm from Belgium and I've got my E90 delivered with 150hp for taxes purposes

Now, after chatting with 3 differents BMW dealers, I'm gonna get the car remapped Wednesday next week.

The good thing is that the guy who is going to perform the job has a power bench, so the real figures about the car engine will be recorded before and after the remap.

I'll update the post with the power bench figures by Wednesday.
I'll try to video/picture if the tuner agree.

If you live in Belgium and you wanna know the address of the tuner just PM me.

stay tune.

D Day ! I'm back from the tuner

As a start, I was disapointed by the power bench being broken, I will be back late january to test the real power of the car.

Now to the FUN ! Very friendly team and what an incredible increase in perf ! as from the start you can really feel the difference ! I have much more pleasure driving the car now. Still have to wait for the engine to release itself. My car is 2 weeks old, need a few more mileage...

I was a bit hesitating to take the car to remap, today no more doubt!

I will repost later the figures after the power bench drive.

I've only 2000km (1242miles)

Today it's 7 liters (1.7galon) by 100Km (62miles) when I drive...
6.5 when my wife is driving

I expect it to decrease after the engine gets more mileages. Tuner told me I should not expect anything good out of the engine before 5000 to 10000km.

Well to me, it's already very well performing and diesel usage is

Well today I crossed the 2000KM (1300miles) so I took the car for a good drive. Still being easy on gas I switched gear at 4500.

1 - 2 - 3 - 4 no problem. incredible performance 5 no turbo anymore ! I've not even try the 6 I had to stop and restart the engine to reset the turbo security and get it back. Was pretty funny to drive the car without turbo...

Now, looks like the tuning done without the rollingroad test has to be improved.
They have to raise the limit from 220 to 240. I wonder what's the break point of the turbo anyway ? is 240 not to much ? I will check before I get the car to the rollingroad and fine-tuned.

My advice here, If you go for ECU remapping make sure the tuner is well equiped and can get your car on a rollingroad for fine tuning.

I saw so many stuff out-there

Still have to say that mine did a great job and fine tuning will be performed very quickly at no cost.

I wouldn`t call that going easy, 4.5K in a 320d probably = won`t rev any more.

As for raising it from 220 to 240 ? 240 what ? Pink elephants ? If the 320d was pushed to 240 bhp it would last 3 mths max. thats if the transmission lasted that long. 210bhp is about as high as you can sensibly go in a 320d. Might be a good idea to find a responsible tuner.

240HP... no no... I believe I'm about 185HP still have to do real measurement on the rollingroad.

I mean turbo pressure in millibar today the limit is set to 220, Tuner says it can go to 240 without problem.

I want to keep the car reliable, means not anything above engine limits. Gear box / Turbo / etc... just keep everything under BMW recommanded values...

So I expect nothing above 185 / 190 HP.

You can get 199HP from a good tuner without going above the engine limits.
Regelin in Germany, one of the best chiptuners, provides that for example.

Your fault is not normal and it seems to me, that there is some mechanical fault...

That's great to know, 196hp and still reliable.

I've not yet reviewed the tuning, I need some free time to go there.

In the meantime I'll take contact with other chiptuners to check if that's kind of "normal".

I contacted another well recommanded tuner.

Preparation
stage 1 - Car will still be reliable 200hp / 420nm
stage 2 - More power 210hp / 435nm but need to change full exhaust and car will not last that long

Indead, the turbo security is not normal. They pretend to reach the above specified figures without touching the turbo limitation

what you describe your car is doing after remap is definitely not ok... I would suggest getting a remap from a well known tuner like ACS, Hartge or others...

Back once more from the tuner. They lowered my Turbo boost so I do not hit the security anymore.

But this time the rollingroad was fixed and I could get the after tuning figures.

185hp at 4100tr
382nm at 2200tr

The 382nm drops under 350nm as from 2500tr

bad tuner... but I had already figured that one out ealier

Ok, now back to my research to get the job well done. Hartge or similar.

I took my camera with me so that I could post a video about the rollingroad test but there is not much to see as you can imagine

Well after some research.

Hartge 140 kW (190 cv) 4000 tr/min. 390 Nm 2000 tr/min.

I really trust those guys but other well recommanded tuner propose

Autotuneheinz 200bhp / 420nm.
Kempower 205bhp / 440nm.

Do some of you have experience with 440nm on 320D manual ?

I think I will go to Hartge anyway, but for my knowledge, I'd like to know what are the physical limit of the car ??

I know that some people had their 330d remapped at Kempower and are quite satisfied with it... looks like a reliable tuning company...

an happy end ???

After all my turbo problem's the tuner took my car to official BMW for inspection, I have the official diagnostic report and indeed there was a problem with a pression sensor. It has been replaced under warranty and my turbo problem's are now history

Now back to the rollingroad test...

203bhp / 457nm. Whaaou ! but...

I know this is far too much for the engine to last more than 50000miles (am I wrong?) On the other hand the power is there and I do not need to use it everyday, keeping those settings and having a heavy foot only now and then... hum ??? still wondering...

The problem is that I love my new engine... but will it last ??? I doubt... will check with other tuners... do you have any experience with 320d and those 457nm ???

I will post the dyno result tomorrow when I have it scanned.

how confident is your tuner about the numbers and the life of your engine? I would be worried about clutch with that torque
but these are really impressive numbers

Well, feedback for the tuner is that I can use the car but with respect. It means not to drive with heavy foot at all times.

That's fine with me, I only use full engine power to overtake or something...

I've also been thinking about getting my 320D remapped somewhere this summer. I got the 163hp engine instead of the 150, didn't care that much about taxes. How much would a remap cost these days ? Would you recommend to let your dealer do the remap ?

*if* I would remap my 335d I would only consider the big tuners like AC Schnitzer, Hamann or Hartge.

Only exception perhaps would be kempower (@ lummen), because I only heard good things about it (cfr Paul330d).

Heinz would be 100% out of the question
