E90 318i (1.8 petrol)- Unexplained Rattle/Ringing Noise When Accelerating.

Hi guys.

Bought this beautiful e90 318i recently.
Currently has 90K on the clock.

However this noise is driving me crazy, it’s usually at lower revs, and only when I’m accelerating IN GEAR.

The noise CANNOT be heard in idle, or when revved at idle.

You will have to listen fairly carefully to hear the sound of metal rattle and a “metal balls clicking” against eachother sound.

(
) to hear the noise.

Any idea what it is? I have a shitty feeling it’s a gearbox issue as it only happens when driving in gear, but I really hope not.

Are these sounds normal in bmw manuals and am I just being paranoid?
