Thoughts on M-Design Cold Air Intake

The design of this CAI caught my eye. Appears to be a true CAI and it looks awesome. Was curious what everyone's thoughts on this CAI were. Does anyone have experience with it?

Lining the inside of the intake with 3M heat reflection is an interesting touch...

Hope you have tune? The MAF will probably have to be scaled.

From a marketing standpoint, There's Too much focus on heat soak. We have turbo cars, heatsoak is inevitable and it's the intercoolers job to keep everything cool.
And this is not a true cold air intake. UR and Dinan makes CAI, where the filter is behind the bumper grabbing fresh air.

Cool concept but it looks pieced-together. It would be nice of this intake was a full carbon fiber instead utilizing a bunch of silicone couplers.

Also what kind of filter does it use? How good is it? Is it proprietary? Does K&N or AFE make replacements?

Reading the product description, it sounds gimmicky, and probably performs the same as the stock intake system. Maybe slightly better. But I don't see how this is a 'true cold air intake system' and how they came up with a 300-400 dollar price tag. It looks kind of cheap in the picture. They could've at least show an uninstalled picture of it to get idea of what the parts look like.

hmmm good points. I'm pretty sure the filter is in the same location as the stock filter, not at the bumper. this would technically make it a true CAI correct? also, I will check, but I'm pretty sure the filter is a K&N

I agree, it would look and perform better if not pieced together but for the price it's not bad.

Detailed pics of the intake kit would help to sell more for sure. That said, it's likely useless in terms of performance.

I was looking into this same exact CAI a few months ago and had some questions about it since there seems to be a lack of details. I emailed the them to provide benchmarks and other design questions. They never got back to me so i moved on. Didnt seem very eager to sell if he did not respond to my email.

Bummer. I will see if I hear back from him and I so maybe direct him to this thread so he can answer questions. He should be happy to unless he doesn't like making money

Heat soak is I agree little issue for air as the air is not sitting in one spot long enough to absorb heat from engine bay.

I had a 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 which has a chargecooler (air to water intercooler) placed right above the engine. Now it would get heat soak. Solution is to insulate the intake from as much heat as possible or reflect it via insulation.

I'm not going to lie, it looks great. I'd also really like to see benchmarks, filter design, etc. before spending $330 on it.

In talks of sponsoring my car with his CAI design, my Instagram is @Victor_n55 , currently at 25k followers and is all about my car lol! I will keep this thread updated if they send me the intake, most likely will come with before and after dyno results

Bought it back in September and installed it on my car a couple days ago.

Install was on the tougher side, but fitment was good.

Sound is definitely louder then stock, not as loud of a open-cone intake. Car pulls like a bastard lol

Glad to see someone actually has one of these. Do you think the car pulls harder than with the stock intake, or did it pull like a bastard to begin with?

Opened up the car definitely, especially in the top end..i could feel it with my butt dyno. The design is really cool and looks clean in the engine bay. I did drive the car for a good amount of time and when I stopped I opened up my hood and felt the intake. It stayed fairly cool (especially compared to others I have felt. I have always liked the use of carbon fiber and silicon; not just for looks, but because they stay cooler. I know FI engines will get hot no matter what by the time the air reaches the turbo, but might as well keep the air cool as long as possible. I have never liked open-cone intakes for this reason, whether it was on my n54, s55, and now n55 motor.

I will get some pics up of the intake for everyone

Heck ya, more pics would be great. Have you had the intake long, any concerns with durability?

I will probably get one, just hoping to hear from their sales rep
