Yes, we just did an '06 with an '08 transmission. After the install we flashed it with the Alpina flash.

For any pre-03/07 owners, if you are willing to experiment (and possibly brick the TCU) I have some modified files here that will potentially allow the software to be forced onto your car

As is, no warranty!

I will need your original ZB number and the assembly number (should be 7573661 i believe) to verify I have modified the file to your car

Cn555ic I have a performance steering wheel with M3 retrofit paddle shifters with left for down shift and right for up shift. I am assuming that this flash will not have any problems working with retrofit paddle shifter thanks in advance for the reply.

Does the flash mess with the normal sport package paddle shifters?

So I just had the Alpina B3 AT6 flash done on my 335i and have a quick question / concern about ‘D’ mode.

When in D, the gears seem to upshift before you can even blink, and you find yourself in 6th gear when doing as little as 65kph. I would have thought it would hold on to each gear just a little longer than it does.. I’d say it shifts around 18000RPM.

On the flip side, S mode (DS) holds on to gears a little too long (for my liking) for daily driving.. As in, it’ll hold 4th gear when doing 80kph and not upshift to 5th till 90kph.

QUESTION: What are your thoughts about D shifting too soon, and driving everywhere in 6th? It doesn’t seem like the engine is labouring, but still.. I’m concerned that it might cause more harm than good shifting through to 6th so soon – especially when cold.

Or am I just paranoid?

EDIT: For 'spirited' driving - It's GREAT! But this is purely for the daily grind (to work etc)

this flash was designed for engines that have about 100 more HP than stock, so the low shift was designed to make more use of the low end torque to save fuel

there is no problem with shifting early, the N54/55 have a good amount of usable power down low, and the transmission does not care

90kph is... slow

I believe those of us who spend most of the time in M mode get the greatest benefit, thanks to the more comfortable shifting performance from over 4K rpm

Yeah fair call.. I'm FBO, so i love the upgrade and would recommend to anyone! BUT at the same time it's my daily drive, so through the week I drive bumper to bumper - miss daisy style..

Does anyone have the MCM/TCU part number for us pre 03/07 guys to look for, and how hard is it to change the MCM/TCU?

Thanks

I honestly never drive the car out of manual mode. Once I added the DCT shifters and went full bolt on I just find the car much more enjoyable in manual mode only. I am flashing my trans this weekend and look forward to the quicker shifts. I could do with a short auto though, car has way, way, more power than I need

Yeah I have been hearing that more and more.. I gave manual mode a go when I first got the car (pre FBO) and wasn't a fan. Although it seems that since B3 flashing, more are switching to paddle (manual) mode.. I may have to revisit!

Yet another cheap and effective N54 mod!
