E90 engine light

Hey guys I'm new here and I got a 2006 e90 and early today before going to work my engine light thingy went off? Ever since then my idles down to 500rpm and when I was on the hwy my rpm was flickering and I could feel the car vibrating whenever I'm stopped on a light? Any ideas?

I think a good place to start would be to read the codes.

Take it to Advance auto, Autozone, etc... and see if they can read your codes. Could be a lot of things.
Coils, plugs, vanos solenoids.
Good luck!

I had a similar issue and it was a bad coil. Not hard to replace. $50 at the dealer for the part. You take off the plastic engine cover, then un-snap the coil and replace it with the new one. presto.

Like suggested, have the codes read.

If you get bored you could undo one coil at a time and see if there is a change in rpm when idling. If you do have a bad coil then 5 of the coils will make the rpms change when you disconnect them (remember one at a time) but the one that is bad will not cause the rpms to change when disconnected because it is already bad and not firing.

Thanks buddy! That's what my cousin also said earlier he works for Langley BMW! Hopefully it's just that! Is that common for e90?

Did you end up changing all yours? Or just the one that's busted?

just the one. you don't have to replace all 6 unless you are doing preventative maint.

there's still a lot of things that could be causing your issue though, so make sure and get the code checked before throwing parts at it.

Thanks guys for the help!!! It was the ignition coil! P0305!! And just heads up to anyone having this trouble!! If you go to BMW dealership for one coil! They're gnna charge you! $92.95 and if you get it to any other store that sells parts it's $49.5! It's not a hard fix I'm pretty sure you can find it in YouTube as I saw it there and just did it like that. I'm not being a cheap ass but after spending $15,000 on the car I really Dnt want to be spending hundreds of dollars on an easy fix!

How long ago did you purchase the car?
From your wording, it sounds fairly recently. Did the dealership offer any warranty even a 60-day?

It was the cylinder 5 coil. "P0305" the scanner was from a buddy's shop and it worked great (I wish I know how to post pictures here through my iPhone) but anyways yea If I would have gone to the dealership just for diagnosing the car would have costed me $145+tax then they were charging $92.95+tax for the ignition coils -_- always DIY IT'LL SAVE YOU LOTS OF MONEY! And e90post was very helpful as well! And YouTube that showed me how to change it LoL
