Shady Mercedez Benz tactics in HKG

Hey guys

Anybody have a MB by any chance? I just found out today, apparently MB Hong Kong has set a ban of third party resellers of accesories for MB. You have to directly goto their dealership now. My friend found out the hard way when he broke something and wanted to order it from one the distributors.

Costs from the dealership are also 2-3 times more than what a distro would charge.

e.g Sport Package side skirts alone cost 8 grand from ZF.

Is this normal in Hong Kong?

I also have a merc... but haven't heard anything on a 3rd party ban...

Even if you can't find a distributor in HK anymore, I'm sure you can either find replica's. If your friend doesn't want to go down that route... then just order online yourself and get it shipped her... still gonna be cheaper than paying MB HK prices.

yea i've only just heard of the third party ban. If its true then thats totally BS. My friend likes to go OEM, so he may have to bite the bullet. Its kinda crazy how much MB HK charges for both parts and labour.

Not only MB but BMW also...
There was a price difference of around 10K for my Mtech kit between BMWHK and Valiant.

at least BMW lets us buy from places like valiant. MB won't even let you do that anymore.

So Zung Fu decides to rip-off their customers eh? Not a very wise move since they can always go to BMW or Audi as alternative next time they buy their cars.

yea its stupid but the majority of MB owners don't really care about money too much. They quoted my father in law 150 k HKD to fix his front two struts, had it fixed at a indie shop and it was only 40k. 90% of that money was to buy the struts from ZF.

Probably true for the S-class or AMG buying 老板/CEO-types, but maybe it might cause some hesitation for the potential A/B/C class buyers though. But could they just order certain parts overseas and have a local garage install it for them (as K3VMO said)? Cheaper that way? Or no difference in cost?

I'm sure we can buy it from outside hong kong but the shipping to hong kong is horribly expensive. A set of hawk pads were 100% more expensive because of the shipping from the US.

My friend and i haven't tried Deutschland yet, but i expect the same. The shop we asked is pretty well known in Hong Kong for selling MB and BMW parts as well.

I would recommend doing a price comparison between Valiant and Deutschland when shopping for parts. My Mtech kit was substantially cheaper from Valiant, compared to Deutschland.
