Uv car shades - anyone used these?

http://www.nm-motorsport.com/acatalo...un-Blinds.html

Wondering about quality compared to the bmw ones etc.

I also wonder how the glass hatch operates on the touring with these fitted?

Got some of these for the mrs Mondeo estate that's used for dog transport.

They are a very good alternative to tints. I know tints aren't permanent anyway but these can be removed or fitted in seconds so much more versatile.

Not sure how the rear hatch on the E91 would work with them.

They shades are attached into little clips so perhaps they've devised a system that works with that.

Thanks for the reply. Do the ones you have fit nice and tightly around the window, without unsightly gaps?

I bought a set of these very ones from Nigel Marston. They clips are a good idea, but I found they did not want to stick to trim too well. I sold the car before I resolved this, but I liked the idea. The rear hatch has clips to stop the shade falling out, though I never fitted to rear hatch, I only used the side windows.

As for tints, I had factory rear tints, but I wanted the blinds as I could open the windows for airflow etc, but still have a shade in place. You can't to with tints, or with the blinds that stick on the windows.

Nigel was good to deal with, and not to discredit him, you can find other supplier for the same item at a cheaper price. If they resolve the issue of the clips not sticking to the trim, its a really good system. Hope that helps.

If I could source decent tints for under £100 I'd probably take this route, but this is unlikely tbh. More than happy to be proved wrong though!

Thats the ones. Not sure how much BMW charge, and what their method of fixing is like. The quality of these blinds are good, just the fixing points are fiddly, and again, you can keep the blind in place with window down, which you can do with a tint.

If however, you want to get them for privacy all round, I would look for tints. I have been quoted £150 for the rear of my Discovery to be done, that 7 bits of fairly big glass. Admittedly this is in Leicester, but still. You might be able to find someone relatively local who can offer a good deal.

Looks like in the video on that page linked, there are plastic clips that glue to the glass for the rear window, so I presume the glass opening portion on the tourer could still function. I love that feature so wouldn't want to not be able to use it!

How much do they just look like tints from the outside? I guess it is fairly similar from a few paces?

Is the adhesive so toxic that you have to wear amazingly silly brown gloves when applying???

Anywhere specific in midlands? As I say, I'm waiting to tint the back of the disco, so please do let me know.

Sorry for going off topic OP.

I have seen people say they've paid 200-250 for tints quite typically.

If anyone knows of a good & reasonably priced place in Hampshire post it up!

Garage List
Sorry to go off topic but when I had my FN2 Civic Type R I got the back windows tinted including the clear plastic panel on the lower part of the hatch done in spi-vision since normal window tint film won't stick to plastic and paid £130 for it. Got it done in Telford at a place called Tintmaster. Great service from them too.

I have these in our E90 and also had them in our previous R32, they are really good quality how the clips are fliddly and the one that sticks to the plastic to hold to top of the blind secure isn't the best as the double sided tape isn't strong enough and in the hot weather it becomes too soft and comes away from the plastic.

Would I buy them again - no, I'd get the windows tinted.

Long shot, but if anyone that has them already could post up some pics from the outside of their car that would be great

Wanna see how much these actually look like tints from 5 paces!

Thanks for the photos Robin. They look good to me. Can't really tell they aren't tints from the photos.

Even though these are probably at least half if not 1/3 the price of tints? Out of interest the plastic clip you speak of not sticking, which windows was that on? I thought the only sticking might be on the rear glass, as per the video.

You have to stick plastic clips to the window trim on the rear doors, its what the bold in held in place by. The bottom of the blind has a metal clip that slides into the gap between the door panel and the window trim. It is those clips that are fiddly to get to set, using the toxic cleaner lol.
