That's cool! you CAN transfer your Personalized plates to black plates! There is a special box that you need to check in your application. In paragraph #3 check: "converting from existing personalized plate"

The thing is that I don't know if I should do it now or later... I haven't got my plates yet.

Wow, I didn't know this program was already a year old; thanks for bumping this thread allowing me to see it!

I'm sending my order in the mail today for personalized black plates for my 1966 Mustang; previously, I was going to go aftermarket "replica" black plates or attempt to restore my bent-up originals, but now I can finally get brand new, street-legal, CA DMV manufactured plate: personalized no less!

The count is at about 6,200 for the blacks so it looks promising that they will get produced.

I have an AW car too and have the white matte black combo but with the Laker license plate that was posted one the first page and it looks great. I think i the black plates would be awesome.

So it's 2015 and they should have started making the black plates.

Has anyone gotten their legacy plates yet?
How long did it take them to cash your check?
How long after cashing the check did it take you to get the plate?

The FAQ says it could take 9-12 months to get the plate

I sent in my application over a month ago and they still haven't cashed my check.
