Only a single rear tire is significantly worn
I'm pretty sure it's because of misalignment. I did the quarter test and only one failed pretty bad. I was told on the phone with a shop that I shouldn't mix different types of tires. I want to switch from Continental DWS to Michelin AS3. Would it be ok to have a new pair of AS3's in the back, and keep my DWS up front? I don't want to buy all four new tires.
Also, if i'm only doing new tires in the rear, then eventually the fronts will need to be replaced which isn't ideal (front more grip, rear less grip), and ill keep going back and forth. Last edited by JunkyardDogg; 01-30-2020 at 09:53 AM.. |

What's the quarter test?
Generally speaking, if you're AWD, you'll want to match tires front and rear. RWD isn't as critical, as long as they're within about 3% diameter front to rear. |

If you see the top of washington's head then you have less than 4/32 tread left
I'm gonna just switch out the back, not worth throwing away 2 perfectly good tires. |

If you're RWD it doesn't matter to mix and match, except to have each axle with matching tyres L-R. XD is way more sensitive to the F-R balance. Currently I've got near dead tyres on the rear, and near new on the front.
